Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of October 13, 2008.
A very late migrating LINCOLN'S SPARROW was seen at a feeder at 3.8
miles Chena Hot Springs Road on October 13.
A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was perched on the telephone wire along
College Road near Labrenz Landscaping on October 10.
A MERLIN was seen at Lathrop High School on October 7. The following
birds were also seen on the 7th: At Harding Lake: About 300 TUNDRA
and TRUMPETER SWANS, 5-6 COMMON LOONS, 20 CANVASBACKS,
100+ RING-NECKED DUCKS and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK. Three
BALD EAGLES were on the Tanana River, and one RED-TAILED HAWK
was seen along the Richardson Hwy.
A BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was seen on the south side of the main runway
at the Fairbanks airport on October 6.
A flock of GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES were seen on top of the ridge past
Murphey Dome toward the Tanana Flats on October 5. Also on the 5th, a
flock
of around 40 PINE SISKINS were at a feeder on Lancaster Drive off of
Farmer's Loop Road on October 5, and large flocks of SWANS were flying
over Tok
An adult NORTHERN SHRIKE was in a yard on Love Road on October 4.
Also on the 4th, a NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen flying over the
parking lot in front of the UAF Patty Center. It crossed Tanana Loop road
and landed in some trees on the edge of the Nenana Parking Lot.
