Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of November 18,
 2008. 

A small flock of around 6 WILLOW PTARMIGAN were feeding in willows
 surrounding a small pond on the corner of the Steese Highway and Johanson
 Expressway on November 12. Another group of 6 WILLOW PTARMIGAN
 were spotted in front of the BLM building on University Avenue the same 
day.
 A single WILLOW PTARMIGAN was seen on the UAF ski trails near the 
satellite dish on November 15.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen chasing Red-backed Voles at a feeder 
on Lancaster Drive off of Farmer's Loop on November 9.

A BROWN CREEPER was observed along the Skarland Ski Trail in the 
northern portion of University of Alaska's Fairbanks North Campus on 
November 8. Also on the 8th, a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was 
seen at 3.5 miles Chena Hotsprings Road about a mile north of the road.

A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH is visiting a feeder off of Farmer's Loop
 near the Dog-Musher's Hall, and a BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was at the 
same site the weekend of November 6.

A SNOW BUNTING and several NORTHERN HAWK OWLS were seen in 
the Delta Bison Range fields the weekend of November 8.

Upcoming events include:
Fairbanks Feeder Count Dates: December 13, March 7
Count the birds at your feeder on three Saturdays this winter to help 
monitor 
resident birds. For more information, call 451-7159.

Thanksgiving for the birds will take place at the Creamer's Field 
Farmhouse Visitor Center on Saturday, November 29 from Noon
-4:00 pm.  This is a family event to build birdfeeders and learn 
about winter birds. 

A Green Holiday Sale will take place at the Wedgewood Resort 
on Saturday, December 6 from 10 am-5:30 pm. Local environmental
 organizations will sell nature-themed items at the second annual 
Green Holiday Sale. Participating organizations include Arctic 
Audubon Society, Alaska Bird Observatory, Northern Alaska 
Environmental Center, and Friends of Creamer's Field.
