This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.

The wintering GRAY FLYCATCHER at the Goleta Cemetery was still present on
April 4. Go south on Turnpike Road to Hollister, and turn left. Pass the
traffic light at Puente and take a left at the next street, which is San
Antonio Road. The cemetery is at the end of the road. Keep to the right and
go to the southeast corner of the cemetery near where it abuts the ball
fields. The bird actively works the small grove of pines and the fence line.

Along Farren Road in west Goleta, two LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS were still present
on the 6th [and the 13th], and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was singing.

32 SURFBIRDS were on the rocks below UCSB's Campus Point on Tuesday, and a
GREATER SCAUP was still in the UCSB lagoon yesterday. On the 5th, the
EURASIAN WIGEON remained in the Goleta Slough as seen from atop the bluffs
on the north side of the UCSB campus.

A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL was still in the wetland area at the intersection
of Los Carneros and Mesa Road on Wednesday.

The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE remains at Ocean Meadows Golf Course and can
be seen at the north end of Devereux Slough.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was reported from the myoporum on the north side of the
Bird Refuge yesterday.

At the Carpinteria Salt Marsh, four BLUE-WINGED TEAL were present on April
4.

There are still two ROSS'S GEESE in the pond at the Rancho Goleta mobile
home park at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.

Highlights at Cachuma Lake this week included one WHITE PELICAN, and several
WOOD DUCKS.

Ranger Peak at Figueroa Mountain had MOUNTAIN QUAIL in the area yesterday.
Also yesterday, there was a pair of CASSIN'S FINCHES at Figueroa Station in
the Blue Oaks along the road.

In the North County, in Old La Purisima Mission Park, off south G Street in
Lompoc, a wintering WHITE-THROATED SPARROW is still in the blackberry bushes
at the southeast corner of the park. That bird was seen today.

PURPLE MARTINS have returned to the Alisal Ranch area of Solvang, with a
dozen of the birds seen on March 28.

South of Santa Maria, on Black Road south of Highway 1, three singing
GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were present on the 5th.

In the front pond at Waller Park in Santa Maria, a SNOW GOOSE, a ROSS'S
GOOSE and the CACKLING GOOSE are presumably still present. Note also that
LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES breed in the park.

[Birds seen in the Cuyama Valley last week include CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD,
PRAIRIE FALCON, BURROWING OWL, SAGE and BLACK-THROATED SPARROWS, and lots of
LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES.]

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
