This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, April 18 at 2:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. For those of you who are getting the
transcript on the Internet, the rare bird alert number for Santa Barbara is
(805) 964-8240.

Along Farren Road in west Goleta, one LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was still present
on Tuesday, and three COMMON RAVENS were in the area.

24 SURFBIRDS were on the rocks below UCSB's Campus Point yesterday. 

A pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL was still in the wetland area at the intersection
of Los Carneros and Mesa Road on Wednesday.

A CASSIN'S VIREO was reported from the Berkeley bike bridge area of San Jose
Creek on Wednesday.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was reported from the myoporum on the north side of the
Bird Refuge yesterday.

At the Carpinteria Salt Marsh off Ash Avenue, six BLUE-WINGED TEAL were
present on April 12. 

There are still two ROSS'S GEESE in the pond at the Rancho Goleta mobile
home park at the end of Ward Drive in Goleta.

Highlights at Cachuma Lake this week included one WHITE PELICAN, and a
CATTLE EGRET.

Kinevan Road had singing CASSIN'S VIREOS on the 12th 

In the North County, in Old La Purisima Mission Park, off south G Street in
Lompoc, a wintering WHITE-THROATED SPARROW is still in the blackberry bushes
at the southeast corner of the park. That bird was seen on Wednesday. 

PURPLE MARTINS have returned to the Alisal Ranch area of Solvang, with a
dozen of the birds seen on March 28. 

A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was reported from the Santa Maria River Estuary on
Monday.

The Guadalupe Sewage Plant pasture still had two PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS on
Tuesday. Two YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were also there. 

At Waller Park in Santa Maria, a VARIED THRUSH was in Area 8 on Monday. A
SNOW GOOSE, a ROSS'S GOOSE and the CACKLING GOOSE were still in the front
pond on the 14th. Note also that LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES breed in the park.

That is all the bird news for now, but, again, if you have a rare sighting
to report, call Karen Bridgers at 964-1316. Good birding in Santa Barbara
County.
