Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 15. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On May 13 a RED-BILLED TROPICBIRD was photographed 25 miles west of
Florence. Six MURPHY¹S PETRELS were seen May 11 off the Oregon Coast. A MANX
SHEARWATER was seen off Boiler Bay May 11.
A very conspicuous WESTERN TANAGER and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK movement passed
through the Willamette Valley during the week. Other noticeable migrants
were BULLOCK¹S ORIOLES, SWAINSON¹S THRUSHES, WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, and
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.
On May 9 five BLACK SWIFTS were at New River. That day a HARRIS¹S SPARROW
was at Newport. A WANDERING TATTLER was seen May 12 at Cannon Beach.
On May 9 two WESTERN KINGBIRDS were on Sauvie Island. A flock of 17 WHIMBREL
were on the Island May 14. On May 13 three WESTERN KINGBIRDS and three
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at the Portland Airport. Several thousand VAUX¹S
SWIFTS entered the Chapman School chimney in Portland May 12. On May 10 a
BLCK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at an Oregon City feeder. On May 14 a BLACK
TURNSTONE was at the Fernhill Wetlands in forest Grove. A dark morph
SWAINSON¹S HAWK was near Lebanon May 13. That day two AVOCETS were in
Eugene. On May 9 a GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE was netted and banded near Grants
Pass.
On May 11 a BLACK SWIFT was seen at Idanha in the Marion County Cascades. On
May 9 two UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen near the fork on Scotty Creek Road
near Seneca.
