We birded the area with Yellow-crowned Night-Herons as the target bird. We then visited a nearby Disk Golf course and finally swung by Holla Bend NWR for Black-bellied Whistling ducks (found) and Yellow-headed Blackbirds (not). Finished around 1 PM and headed home. I saw 59 separate species. Thanks, Ted, for being our guide. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Re: Yellow Crowned night heron From: Beverly Sullivan <DameBev(AT)AOL.COM> Date: 5 Apr 2008 3:55pm ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- I wish you could have been here at my house day before yesterday. We had a yellow crowned night heron in the tree across the street! My husband came and got me to see what it was. I got a few pictures and then he left. Guess he got tired of trying to fly in all the rain. Beverly Sullivan ************** Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. Heard but not seen before. Joan saw a Black Vulture too We heard several birds in the trees we couldn't find and weren't good enough with songs to ID. We sat by the spillway for a good half hour and the area was alive with yellow rumps, kinglets, swallows, and phoebes. We also saw a butterfly fresh out of it's cocoon, either a comma or question mark, the lower wings weren't open yet. Also a red admiral, hackberrys and some sulfers. Squirrels, grey and fox and Chipmonks. The dogwoods are ready to bloom and small, beautiful, woodland wildflowers were popping up everywhere. -- Jacque Brown Bella Vista, Benton, Co AR, bluebird2(AT)cox.net
