Subject: Holla Bend 4/5/08
From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?David_Ray?= <cardcards(AT)SBCGLOBAL.NET>
Date: 6 Apr 2008 12:12am
After Jim & Samantha Dixon & Karen Holliday left for home & Ted left for his
ride home, I went back to Holla Bend. It is open again after recent
flooding. Roads are passable, but there is still quite a bit of water & the
river is so high I did not see any birds on it whatsoever. On the way there
I ran into Dottie & Doris Boyles still looking for the yellow-headed
blackbird that Doris had seen earlier. No luck. From there I went down to
Country Loop Road to see if I could find a possible late Harris' sparrow. No
luck there either. Whistling ducks were still present as I reached Holla
Bend around 4:00 p.m. Besides the earlier listing of Jim Dixon's I was able
to add:
black vulture
wild turkey
swamp sparrow
green-wing teal
northern bobwhite
wood duck
gadwall
northern harrier
red-shouldered hawk
greater yellowlegs
lesser yellowlegs
song sparrow
Checked on the way home for the possible yellow-headed blackbird. Although
they (red-winged blackbirds) were gathering for the night, (100's of them),
still no yellow-headed.
All total I had 73 species for the day, with the bb whistling duck being a
lifer. Watch out Dan, I'm only 319 birds behind you!

Subject: Murray Park 4/06/2008 (am)
From: Jim Dixon <jamesdixonlr(AT)ATT.NET>
Date: 6 Apr 2008 12:36pm
I arrived at Murray Park at 7:46. I started at the dam, went west a ways
then back and then to the eastern most part of the park. In the eastern
part, I found a lot of damage from the recent tornadoes in the area. A
lot of otherwise perfectly good trees where destroyed. As often as I
encounter Pileated Woodpeckers, I never got a decent picture of one
until today when one was there and unconcerned with me. I recorded a
call and later matched it with the Blackpoll Warbler. Left the area at 9:30.

Although the recent rains have caused many problems the lake at =
