[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Fort Smith to Little Rock, Addendum From: Dan Scheiman <birddan(AT)COMCAST.NET> Date: 28 Apr 2008 12:08am How could I have forgotten to mention that Delos and Hazel McCauley also were in the caravan across the state?! Also, we saw 9 Trumpeter Swans on the edge of Holla Bend NWR. We didn't look closely enough to read neck bands. Dan Scheiman Little Rock, AR

They were tending to a nest in a large sycamore tree within plain view of the walking trail, ~150-200 yards west of the library and adjacent to the future home of the Presidential Park Wetlands. =20 Josh Duzan Little Rock ________________________________ From: The Birds of Arkansas Discussion List [mailto:ARBIRD-L(AT)LISTSERV.UARK.EDU] On Behalf Of Alan Gregory Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2008 4:38 PM To: ARBIRD-L(AT)LISTSERV.UARK.EDU Subject: FOS Baltimore Oriole and Hummingbird Had my first of the year ruby throat and baltimore oriole on the same day. I have an ant moat for the hummingbird feeder but the oriole feeder seems to be fair game. Its my first year with an official oriole feeder and the ants are cleaning me out of nectar. Also have bluebirds and carolina wrens about to fledge. I drove by sweden falls natural area last week and they were doing a prescribed burn. Isn't it a little late? So many are already nesting and all the herps are out. So much for the heritage commission caring about box turtles. alan gregory harrison ar ----DELETED text/html MIME SECTION----

Camping. This pl= ace has equestrian trails through the woods and I spent as much time as pos= sible walking these looking for birds. Since I was at least 100 miles south= of my home I was anxious to see what was about. I was also only 25 miles f= rom Arkansas. Level with Mena.=A0 I saw and was able to photograph ( a Lot)= a Summer Tanager singing nearly constantly, Indigo Bunting, Kingbird=A0 al= l FOS and=A0 Red Eyed Vireo,=A0 this made up for the shot I couldn't get at= Lake Atalanta in Rogers. I also spotted a Hummer and then a Piliated Woodp= ecker shot through our camp within 5 minutes of each other. There were othe= r birds to note, I heard a whiporwill on Friday and Saturday evening. I had= n't heard one since I lived in Texas. I was also surprised to see 3 Pine Si= skins and Yellow Throated Vireo, I have a list of about 40 birds. I staked = out a puddle in the road and a surprising variety of birds showed up for a = bath. =0AWe broke camp early today to come home because of rain. It was nic= e out here in Bella Vista so I walked across the street to the golf course = and within a few minutes saw 3 Indigo Buntings a Summer Tanager and a pair = of Brown Thrashers thrashing insects on the green. On the way back across t= he street I saw a Towhee, I also got a picture of a thrush but I'm not sure= it is a Hermit Thrush. It seems pale so I will show the picture around.=A0= Now all I need is the Hummer. =0AOver all it was a good weekend. I hear th= e goslings are starting to hatch at the fish hatchery so I may try to buzz = by there tomorrow at lunch.=A0 Jacque. =0A--=0AJacque Brown=0ABella Vista, = =0ABenton, Co AR,=0Abluebird2(AT)cox.net=0A=0A=0A=0A ____________________= ________________________________________________________________=0ABe a bet= ter friend, newshound, and =0Aknow-it-all with Yahoo! [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Stuttgart Airport Cleanup From: Dan Scheiman <birddan(AT)COMCAST.NET> Date: 28 Apr 2008 11:22am ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- This is a reminder that tomorrow April 29 is Stuttgart's Rid-Litter Day. I'll have a team at Stuttgart Airport (Important Bird Area) from 3-5. Stuttgart will have food and entertainment from 5-6. Bring work gloves and binoculars and meet us at the main office at 3 or any time after to help out and show the community that birders care about the local environment. There is room for one more carpooling from Little Rock (contact me off-list for details). FYI, in the two years the birder's register has been at the airport it has received over 200 signatures (including repeats) from 23 states and 2 Canadian provinces. May the list continue to grow and provide proof that birders were there. Thanks to all who sign it. It also helps your fellow birders know what birds have been seen recently. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Fork-tailed Flycatcher From: Mary Alice Beer <abeer(AT)ARTELCO.COM> Date: 28 Apr 2008 9:07pm This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- I am posting this for some excellent birders from Columbus, Ohio who are presently visiting Fairfield Bay. (Terry & Vicki Smith). Yesterday while out birding down Hwy 330 they saw one bird that was NOT one of the many Scissor-tails. It matched every aspect of the Fork-tailed. It was not seen today but we have the home owners all excited about it and they are keeping all eyes out hoping it will return. It was seen on the fence close to the mail box at 1187 Hwy. #330.=20 This is just a short way south of the junction of Hwy #16/Hwy. #330 several miles west of Fairfield Bay. The homeowners don't mind if anyone wants to come look. They work during the day but still say it's OK. There is an elderly gentleman who lives across the road who is pretty much confined to a wheel chair but he's really excited about having somethi= ng to look for so will be keeping a wary eye out. He promised to call me if he spots it. Please feel free to call me if you'd like any updated information or more explicit information about the location.
