[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Rare: Pacific Loon From: Karen Holliday <ladyhawke1(AT)ATT.NET> Date: 6 Dec 2009 2:11am ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Saturday afternoon I birded Lake Maumelle. At Loon Point (the first rest st= op past the marina) I had a Pacific Loon swimming very=A0close to shore. It= was cruising along in the channel between the trail along the shore and th= e island. I also had 17+ Common Goldeneyes, several Common Loons, and a hug= e raft of Scaup. At Vista Point, I saw what was possibly a Red-necked Grebe= . It was quite far out and the heat simmers were pretty bad so I can't be s= ure. If you are at Vista Point, keep an eye out for it. =A0 Earlier in the day, Dottie and Doris Boyles and I were in Pine Bluff. We bi= rded the Boyd Point Wastewater Treatment Plant before going to the Nature C= enter to hear the hummingbird program by Mr. and Mrs. Sargent. At the treat= ment plant, we saw at least three Eared Grebes. We also had Horned Grebes, = White Pelicans, lots of Northern Shovelers, Ruddy Ducks, Gadwalls, and Buff= leheads. The Bonaparte's Gulls outnumbered the Ring-billed Gulls.=A0=A0Ther= e is a House Wren right at the entrance gate that easily pishes up. =A0 Karen Holliday Maumelle, Pulaski Co. ----DELETED text/html MIME SECTION----
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Weekend Pictures From: Jim Dixon <jamesdixonlr(AT)ATT.NET> Date: 6 Dec 2009 3:06pm Saturday morning, Samantha Dixon and I went to Treadway's to chase the reported Surf Scoter. No luck but we saw plenty of less exotic fowl. Sunday morning. I went to the Lake Maumelle Spillway and then to Loon Point (after getting Karen's Pacific Loon email). Nothing exotic at Maumelle either but I got some pictures that I hope you'll like. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: urban geese From: Bill Shepherd <stoneax63(AT)HOTMAIL.COM> Date: 6 Dec 2009 3:21pm ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- I took a walk through MacArthur Park this afternoon and saw several Muscovy= Ducks and one Mallard-type hen--all of them probably with long histories o= f domestication. Finding Canada Geese in the park was no surprise either= =2C but I was surprised at how many were in the park and even more surprise= d to notice that a few of them seemed one size smaller than the Giant Canad= as. The smaller geese weren't even all in one flock either. Could the sma= ller geese be Cackling Geese? I'm not very confident of my ability to iden= tify Cackling Geese=2C even when they are associating with Giant Canada Gee= se. =20 And=2C for what it's worth=2C all the geese seemed equally approachable. I= n other words the smaller geese weren't any flightier than the Giants. =20 Bill Shepherd Bill Shepherd 2805 Linden=2C Apt. 3 Little Rock=2C Arkansas 72205-5964 Ston= eax63(AT)hotmail.com (501) 375-3918=20 = ----DELETED text/html MIME SECTION----

The only bird of note was the same SURF SCOTER at Treadway's that we found the other day. It was in the same pond on the northeast corner of the property.
