[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: RFI; Great Knot illustration in Sibley From: "gljeinwv(AT)juno.com" <gljeinwv@juno.com> Date: 6 Apr 2008 4:53am We had a juvenile Great Knot in West Virginia last year, and, I've been trying to locate illustrations of Great Knot in Sibley's guides to compare them to the ones in NGS, but haven't been able to do so. So, could someone tell me what plate they're on? Thanks in advance for your assistance. So, could someone tell me what plate they're on? ------------------------------ Hi, The Sibley guide (the large one) doesn't have a plate with Great Knot on it, just a small paragraph on it under "Rare Shorebirds" on Page 161. But I'm a little confused. I remember looking at the photos when they were posted and thought that the bird was an adult, not a juvenile. Apparently they're no longer online(?) because the original link to them listed in the Archives doesn't work anymore. Anyway, some excellent photos of both adults and juveniles are in "The Shorebird Guide" by O'Brien, Crossley, and Karlson on Pages 281 and 282. Another excellent photo of an adult taken by Jason Horn during our trip to Gambell, Alaska can be found on my "Eastern PA Birding" website. Go to the address below and click on the "2007 Alaska Trip" link at the lower left. The photo is located about a third of the way down the page. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: BirdNote , last week and next--the week of April 7 From: Ellen Blackstone <ellen(AT)123imagine.net> Date: 6 Apr 2008 8:54am Hello, BirdChat! Coming up on BirdNote the week of April 7, we talk about a sure sign of spring, Pacific chorus frogs--where have they gone?; songbirds migrating by the stars; the American Goldfinch's spring plumage; sunning with Mourning Doves; and Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler. Pix: http://tinyurl.com/5t55xk Last week, we aired: * Tree Swallows March North http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=1450 * The Delirian (if you missed it, you should listen!) http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=94 * Flight Coordination in Starling Flocks http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=1460 * Marbled Godwits http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=1461 * Hummingbird Migration Myths http://www.birdnote.org/birdnote.cfm?id=118 BirdNote is an audio program, two minutes per episode, which you can listen to or read on the website. It’s also available as a podcast. http://www.birdnote.org/birdnotepodcast.xml All episodes are in the archives, both as a transcript and in MP3 format.
