I'm planning a trip to Palm Springs for Labor Day (4 nights), & will be
spending some or most of that time birding. My target list is pretty
short, but if anyone knows of good sites w/in a reasonable distance, I'd
greatly appreciate the help.
- Yellow-footed Gull (obviously the Salton Sea; any sites around the
NORTH end would be good to save the long drive to the better-known sites
around the south)
- Prairie Falcon (a nemesis bird - any specific spots to search very
welcome)
- Black-tailed Gnatcatcher (any specific good spots, or just 'everywhere
in suitable habitat'?)
- Le Conte's Thrasher (the thrashers probably my 'most wanteds' after the
gull)
- Bendire's Thrasher (I know they're in Joshua Tree N.P., but don't know
specifics)
Also a couple of others that may or may not get reasonably close - Red-
naped Sapsucker & Grey Vireo. Oh, & Vaux's Swift if it's not too early for
them.
OT: Any good herp or ode (or butterfly, mammal, fish....) spots also
welcome; I'm a multi-opportunity lister. Already planning to hit Coachella
Valley & Dos Palmas.
