Weather:
Weather better than expected: heavy rain early postponed the opening of
the watch, but the afternoon was clear and even sunny at times. Brisk
southerly winds (but shifting frequently) and balmy temperatures except for
a few sudden blasts of north wind from the lake.
Raptor Observations:
A nice flight of sharpies and harriers after the rain. One non-migrating
bald eagle.
Non-raptor Observations:
Jann Randell helped with the count.
Predictions:
Unfortunately the next day is here because of computer failure. But we
expect cool weather and rain today: not promising.

Weather:
Began promisingly. Wind WSW to SW for most of the period, very light, then
switching to a stronger WNW flow during the last hour. Mostly sunny; 10%
to 40% cloud. Barometer rose from 30.14 to 30.17; humidity declined from
75.3% to 61%. Temperature rose from 10C to 16C during the period.
Raptor Observations:
Raptor migration quite good until the wind switched direction, then rather
abruptly stopping. Indications of a possible inland flight prompted me to
try the more inland Grimsby Road location for a little while at about noon.
This produced a subadult bald eagle, but nothing else.
Non-raptor Observations:
First (for me) sightings and/or hearings at the cemetery this year:
Flicker
Tree Swallow
Tufted Titmouse
Phoebe

Weather:
Lost first half of day due to rain. First 2 hours i was up there were
overcast and a little chilly. Last 2 hours the sun broke through, and we
had nice blue holes in an otherwise grey sky. Fog rolling in off the Ocean,
and bright blue holes in a mostly grey sky - in other words, a spectacular
view. Truly one of the most beautiful late afternoons i have witnessed. (Of
course, the Birds didn't hurt the view either!)
Raptor Observations:
1 ambitious Sharp-shinned Hawk in the first 2 hours. Then the real fun
started. 1 American Kestrel, followed by a Merlin; then another Kestrel,
then another, then another... 14 Americans Kestrels in about 30 minutes -
and many of these excellent Falcons were catching and eating some type of
insect. Several really nice looks. Wow! Also a nice move by Ospreys - 7 in
the last hour. Really was a lot of fun.
Non-raptor Observations:
I want to thank Don for spending some time on the Mountain yesterday. I
forgot to mention Don in the 4/11 post, and he did some very nice spotting.
See you on the 25th (or thereabouts) Don.
