A bright, cloudless, difficult sky with some haze. Raptor Observations: The kettles of BW's are getting bigger. A beautiful look at one non-migrant adult bald eagle. When the wind shifted to the north, the birds were pushed to the hillside where they were high and wide. Thank goodness for many and good sets of eyes. Non-raptor Observations: Early morning brown thrasher serenaded us at site one. Chipping sparrow. Jann Randell, Mike Ceci, Tom Waselewski and Dave Feliciano helped with the count. Predictions: Mostly cloudy, very warm, moderate southerly winds. We could have another good day in a string of good days. Raptor Observations: Th flight started around 9:30AM EST and was constant until 2:00 PM EST when it began to thin out. An immature Bald Eagle put in an appearance but chose to fly west rather than migrating east. At 3:00PM EST we moved to the Grimsby Drive site as the flight had moved inland and we had 35 sightings in the last hour there. Non-raptor Observations: Purple Martin, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Common Loon and, at 1:09 EST, a single Double-crested Cormorant flying north towards Lake Erie. Predictions: Sunny, with a high near 77. Southeast wind between 5 and 9 mph. It is located on flat lake plain located along the shoreline of the east end of Lake Erie, about 12 miles south of Buffalo, NY. Bear right after the toll booth onto Camp Road (Route 75). Proceed through the traffic light at Southwestern Blvd.(Route 20). The entrance to Lakeside Memorial Park is on the left, less than 1/4 mile from the light. The watch is normally conducted half way between the entrance and the woods. An alternate site for easterly wind flights is at the William Williams Ball Park, located on Rogers Rd. Take Route 20 south from Camp Rd. one traffic light and turn right till just before the railroad crossing.
