Was glad to see Tom D. back as he is doing well in his recovery from hand
surgery.
Want to say thanx to Linda, Dave, Bob D., Libbet, Steve, Pam, Donna, and
Biff for spending time with us. Great spotting on a tough day, everyone!
25 visitors in total.
Weather:
The warmest day so far this spring on Bradbury Mountain. Temps hovered in
the mid-seventies all day. Nice cloud cover early, but we lost most of
these clouds by mid-day.
Raptor Observations:
Majority of counted Birds were high against a hazy blue sky. Local Bald
Eagles and Cooper's Hawks continued their respective daily shows.
Best look at any Raptor on the day was a first year Bald Eagle that sailed
directly over Bradbury Mountain, maybe a hundred yards up. Awesome!
Non-raptor Observations:
2 Common Loon flyovers. Excellent looks at Palm and Pine Warblers.

to the NE, the number of hawks fell drastically and by 1430 the flight shut
down completely.

Weather:
Very comfy temps, especially early. South winds most of day, becoming
stronger and a little colder late in day. A few helpful clouds, with
viewing significantly easier than yesterday.
Raptor Observations:
Seeing that we are in Maine, i will mention the Black Vulture first. This
excellent Bird was spotted in the sky at the same time as a 15 Broad-winged
Hawk kettle; our largest kettle of the year. It was a life Bird and a
first-in-Maine Bird for several people present, so that was cool!
160 counted Raptors - our biggest numbers day so far this spring. 81
Broad-winged Hawks is our largest Broad-winged day so far. 4 Merlins - also
our best day for this awesome Falcon. Plus strong showings by Sharp-shinned
Hawks and American Kestrels. Obviously an excellent day!
Non-raptor Observations:
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo,Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and
numerous Palm Warblers observed.

Weather:
Moderate southerly winds shifting at the surface to northerly, but above
100 metres winds remained southerly until the watch closed. Very warm
temperatures and helpful cloud cover.
Raptor Observations:
Over 2600 broadwings, some in large kettles and others streaming through in
small groups, the majority of them at high altitudes. Some broadwings might
have been missed when they went high, possibly beyond the range of our
binoculars. Helpful southerly winds kept the migrants concentrated near
the lake. One local bald eagle. Quite a day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Two sandhill cranes; many flickers moving over the site early. Thanks to
all the excellent sets of eyes helping spot the birds! Dave Feliciano, Tom
Wasilewski, Mike Ceci, Jann Randell and Don Nixon helped with the count.
We also received much help from our many visitors. Sorry the Salamanca
contingent missed the biggest broadwing hours.
Predictions:
Southeast winds, cooler with possible showers: Probably won't equal today
but not necessarily a write-off either.

Bright overcast conditions dominated much of the early part of the day as
high cloud cover moved through the area. Partial clearing occurred in the
early afternoon with much of the remainder of the day being sunny. Winds
were light east-northeast until midday, becoming moderate north-northwest
thereafter.
Raptor Observations:
There was a bit of a slow start start to the flight but a fairly steady
movement was seen from about mid morning onward. Sharpies dominated much of
the flight but there was a decent afternoon movement of Rough-legs and a
very good push of Kestrels at the end of the day.

a number of others.
Weather:
Relatively clear with high cloud all day, winds low and NE to sometimes N,
temperatures in the 10-15 degree Celsius range with the breeze off the lake
making it feel much cooler than further inland.
Raptor Observations:
Broad-wing numbers were promising earlier in the day but tapered off to a
trickle by midday. From then onwards, numbers of birds were fewer but
variety was substantially better as we got to 13 species of raptor on the
day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Passerines are becoming more numerous and included a flock of 5-6 Purple
Finch, a Bohemian Waxwing in a small flock of Cedar Waxwing, a Pine
Warbler, an Eastern Phoebe, and singing Brown Thrasher and Field Sparrow.
Good loon numbers flying over, with 22 Common Loon through the day and a
pair of Red-throated Loon in the early morning. Only two cormorants,
singles flying over to the north at 10.35 and 14.40 EDT.
Predictions:
Could be better than today. The results from the New York counts south of
Beamer indicate good numbers of Broad-wings today, which means they could
be at Beamer tomorrow. The weather report for tomorrow no longer includes
showers so, provided winds are favourable, a 4-digit count could occur.

Total observation time: 7 hours

Observers: Kevin W, Dan, Nora, Chris, Tom G.
Visitors:
Total=17 (WELCOME KATHLEEN)
Weather:
Today, Sunny with average Temperature: 75.6 °F (24.2 °C) Wind Speed: 5MPH
(8KM/H), Wind Direction: SSW, Visibility: 15M (24K), Cloud Cover: 10%,
Thermal Updraft Velocity: 300. Notes: Hazy and sunny in the AM and the hazy
remained all day. Temp reached 80°F. Sunburn weather and no leaves on the
trees means no shade to be found.
Raptor Observations:
Most of the hight altitude migration aided by the the SSW winds and warm
air traveled directly overhead. Broad-winged hawks traveled alone or in
pairs for the most part or mixed in with other hawks.
Local Red-tail hawks were dancing on the wind in courtship flights all
day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of (non-bitting) bugs in the morning made things uncomfortable and
they were replaced with hot sun around noon. BG Gnat catchers were about
along with Chipping Sparrows and more double-crested Cormorants.
Predictions:
Mostly cloudy and cooler.
