By the way Heidi, thank you for bringing Luke to the Hawkwatch; and Skip, thank you for bringing Paul to the Hawkwatch! Excellent spotting done by Lionel, Alan, Derek, Luke, Ed, Kellie, Heidi, Jeff, Skip, Paul, and Jeannette(amongst others). (By the way, if i misspelled your name Kellie, let me know when i see you next!) Thanx to all - and please hurry back! Weather: Moderate to strong winds from the S and SSE all day long. Temps not bad, but wind chill definitely a factor, particularly later in the day. Thermals practically non-existent, but a nice updraft off of Bradbury Mountain. Raptor Observations: Consistent Broad-winged Hawk movement, although no kettle action to speak of - due to the lack of thermals. A strong day for Sharp-shinned Hawks; and nice showings by American Kestrels and Ospreys. An excellent overhead(and extended)look at a 3rd year Bald Eagle. Also had an American Kestrel female fly directly overhead(maybe 20 yards up); followed a minute or two later by a male Merlin, on the same exact flight line. Way cool ! Non-raptor Observations: Highlight of the day was 18-20 Bohemian Waxwings. These awesome beauties showed up about 15 minutes before closing, and topped off another fine day on Bradbury Mountain. Predictions: I predict that tomorrow is Monday. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jeannette Lovitch (wildbirdcenter(AT)yarmouthbirds.com) BIRDHAWK is sponsored by HMANA.
