halt, entirely to a stop with the rain. Nice flight of eagles, northern
harriers, ospreys and sharpies.
Non-raptor Observations:
Well over 1,000 bluejays. Jann Randell and Mike Ceci helped with the
count.
Predictions:
Southeasterly winds shifting to NE. The southerly winds might help a flight
develop near the lake.

Visitors:
34 visitors in total. As mentioned before, thanx to Leon, Don, Luke, Julie,
and Brad for spending some quality hours on Bradbury Mountain. And to
Libby, whom visited us via phone... Hurry back, one and all...
Weather:
Awesome day, with light to moderate winds early(variable in terms of
direction); and light to moderate South winds rest of day. Comfortable
temps all day. Not many clouds, but the few we had were helpful.
Raptor Observations:
First off, it was a dream day for Hawkwatchers. A heartfelt thanx to Leon,
Don, Luke, Julie, and Brad for their awesome spotting efforts. And to
Libby, for the posititve Bird karma... Now for the fireworks:
2 Black Vultures seen to the West. Unlike our first Black Vulture for the
'08 Bradbury Hawkwatch, these 2 were scope Birds; but very exciting,
regardless.
How about an immie Northern Goshawk circling overhead for a full minute or
two? This awesome Accipiter was built like a tank! Truly one of the most
incredible Birds that i have seen! And that is not all:
How about a Peregrine Falcon dive-bombing a Turkey Vulture?!! My guess
would be that this was an immie Peregrine(based on attitude); but it was
too distant to age accurately(for me anyway). But what a show this
magnificent Falcon put on! Great spot Luke!
Speaking of Falcons; before today, i am not sure i had ever seen 11
Merlins in one day. No misprint folks - 11 Merlins! Virtually all of the
Birds were overhead, with numerous world-class looks provided. Julie
spotted 5 or 6 of these Birds, and thus she will henceforth be known as
"Merlin-Lady"; at least when she is Hawkwatching with me, anyway!
Also 1 Basic II Bald Eagle moving through; and several nice looks at
resident adults.
And a very consistent Broad-winged Hawk day; no fewer than 3 in any hour,
and numerous high-quality looks.
To put it in hockey or soccer terms; we scored a "hat-trick" on both
countable Accipiters and countable Falcons, which makes for an excellent
day at any Hawkwatch in the world.
Bradbury Mountain rocks!!!
Non-raptor Observations:
How about a Purple Martin! This beautiful Bird was spotted flying over the
Mountain, maybe 60 to 80 feet up. This individual was an adult male, and
putting it simply; this was one stunning Swallow! Wow...
