Weather:
Strong (3-4) East wind throughout watch; 10-13°C; extensive (50%) but wispy
clouds changed to 10% regular clouds
Raptor Observations:
Better than expected; all but one bird flying low (1); all but 2 birds
flying over the marsh side of the site. First SS soared from 3-6 before
being lost. Of the 6 kestrels seen, 5 were identifiable and all were
female. Female Merlin flew 2 feet above the ground and 20 feet away from
the watch site at 9:22.

80 migrating DC Cormorants; 4 Purple Martins (3 males, 1 female)

Weather:
Windy and very chilly, especially early near the lake. Winds mainly WNW.
Raptor Observations:
The relatively modest numbers of raptors were fairly spread out; the
broadwings not terribly high but few in number.
Non-raptor Observations:
Dave and Anita Cooney, Bill and Eileen Jowett, Tom Wasilewksi, Mike Ceci
and Jann Randell helped with the count. Naps on Creamery Road anyone?
Eastern Phoebe, yellow-bellied sapsucker, lots of bluejays moving through.
Predictions:
Not promising with rain predicted in the morning and possibly in the
afternoon with dropping temperatures and very brisk winds (10-15 mph - none
southerly). We've been wrong before.

Weather:
Overcast conditions in the morning gave way to partly sunny conditions in
the afternoon and clearing by late afternoon. Winds were fairly strong and
gusty from the west switching to the northwest in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Quite a modest movement was recorded overall, not surprising given the
intensity of this particular cold front and the strong winds associated
with it.

Light ESE wind. cool & overcast and hazy early with some clearing and a few
breaks in the clouds by mid Pm
Raptor Observations:
Sub-adult bald eagle (4th yr bird), @ 1:44 low and close over south ridge.
(Ospreys and eagle were all low and close today, hugging the south ridge.)
Non-raptor Observations:
Ruffus-sided towhe, piliated woodpecker, 6 wild turkeys, B&W warblers.

Weather:
Overcast/cloudy skies with a visibility of 2-3 miles. Periods of misty rain
with temp range of 41 to 48 F.
Winds from east 5 mph.

(1) Broad winged hawk
Non-raptor Observations:
Local mating pairs of Blue birds, northern cardinals, chipping sparrows
were all about the hawk watch. Local TV's and BV's observed without
getting much lift.
Predictions:
Temperatures in mid to upper 40's with slight chance of rain in morning
changing to heavy rains in the afternoon into evening.

Relatively clear skies with a steady cool WSW breeze off the lake all day.

Golden Eagle just after 3PM EST. One dark morph Rough-leg.

Site Description:
This spring only "all volunteer" watch is conducted at Lakeside Memorial
Park in Hamburg, NY. It is located on flat lake plain located along the
shoreline of the east end of Lake Erie, about 12 miles south of Buffalo,
NY.
Many North American hawk watch sites report their daily raptor counts at
www.hawkcount.org

Directions to site:
Lakeside Memorial Park in Hamburg, NY. is located about 12 miles southwest
of Buffalo, NY at the Hamburg Exit 57 of the NY State Thruway. Bear right
after the toll booth onto Camp Road (Route 75). Proceed through the traffic
light at Southwestern Blvd.(Route 20). The entrance to Lakeside Memorial
Park is on the left, less than 1/4 mile from the light. The watch is
normally conducted half way between the entrance and the woods. An
alternate site for easterly wind flights is at the William Williams Ball
Park, located on Rogers Rd. Take Route 20 south from Camp Rd. one traffic
light and turn right till just before the railroad crossing.
