An hour of little activity at the beginning of the watch and then lots of
broadwings and other birds for one hour, then very little activity (with
the exception of three bald eagles) for the rest of the watch.

Terry shamed us out of our sheltering car - and there were the broadwings!
Jann Randell and Mike Ceci helped with the count.
Predictions:
Partly cloudy, warmer with southerly winds shifting to westerly. Who
knows? Winds look good early but the shift could kill anything that gets
started. Are there birds ready to come?

Weather:
Today saw mostly sunny skies with some thin cirrus developing in the
afternoon and some heavier cloud cover late in the day. Winds were variable
early in the day, starting light from the northwest, switching to northeast
before swinging around to moderate east by mid morning. Finally they would
switch to the south-southeast by late afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
The flight was as variable as the wind, with much of the early day movement
fairly high but later knocked down by the switch and increase in the wind.
However, many of the Broad-wings noted were very high despite the change
in conditions. Among the Red-tails recorded for the day were two dark
morphs, one adult and one juvenile.
Non-raptor Observations:
New arrivals included Northern Rough-winged Swallow and Cape May Warbler.

Weather:
Partly cloudy becoming sunny; 61-70 degrees; fair visibility with haze;
winds mostly from the WNW, 6-14 mph, gusting to 21 mph
Raptor Observations:
The westerly winds brought us good numbers of vultures, Sharp-shinned
Hawks, and Broad-winged Hawks. It was our best day thus far for
Broadwings. Prior easterly winds likely kept them away from our hawkwatch
site earlier.
Non-raptor Observations:
Least Sandpiper; Pine Siskin; Probably a few thousand swallows, mostly
Trees.
