[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Request For Records From: Scott Hartley <scott.hartley(AT)ncmail.net> Date: 15 Aug 2006 11:11am Hi - The staff at Pettigrew State Park, NC are working on developing a bird check list and would welcome any records that folks may have. Contact or send them to Lora.Manning(AT)ncmail.net. Today was fortunate to observe a clash between the two groups of red-cockaded woodpeckers at the park office. Fussing and chasing each other often at eye level. Got some decent photos. Thanks for you help. Scott Hartley Weymouth Woods - SNP Southern Pines, NC
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: No Richland Co., SC Roseate Spoonbill From: "Dennis Forsythe" <dennis.forsythe(AT)citadel.edu> Date: 15 Aug 2006 8:14pm Yesterday I spent time along Hy 601 in Richland Co., SC. I saw the White Ibis but I did not see a Roseate Spoonbill. Dennis Dennis M. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: great day for a dog day! From: <ginger_travis(AT)bellsouth.net> Date: 15 Aug 2006 8:24pm For me, July and early August drag on forever -- the dullest time of year for birds around my yard. But today was an exception. I stepped outside for a minute this morning and heard a raven calling -- closer and closer till it came into view and flew past my house. Wow, I thought. And tonight around 7:45 I decided to brave the humidity and sit outside. A huge bird flew up and alighted in a pine 50 feet away from me. Turned its head and showed its "horns" against the evening sky. Great Horned Owl. Double wow! Two great birds on the same dog day. Ginger Travis Orange Co., NC, about 10 miles NW of Chapel Hill
