[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Bobolink over Chatham County From: "J. M. Lynch" <jmlynch(AT)earthlink.net> Date: 21 Aug 2006 7:58am Carolinabirders: On my morning walk today, I heard the distinctive flight note of a high-flying Bobolink (which I confirmed by sight). My first of the season and confirmation (for me, anyway) that fall migration has officially started. J. M. Lynch Luther Road Chatham County, NC
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: little river park From: "barbara brooks" <brooksba(AT)visionet.net> Date: 21 Aug 2006 7:21pm Today, I went to the little river park on guess rd just south of new sharon church rd. I had originally gone to see about butterflies but after determining the little ones were too hard I moved on to birding. Walked one of the loop trails and came across a group of chickadees, titmouse, cardinals. The highlights of the group were a blue grey gnatcatcher and black and white warbler. If all the trails are like the one I took, it is a rather easy walking trip as the trails are very well marked and pretty smooth. I forget the number of miles of hiking trails but there are about 9 miles of bike trails that are open to hikers. The park had a nice butterfly garden. It also has a 1/4 mile paved loop for walkers and handicapped access. here are the other birds turkey vulture red shouldered hawk (h) summer tanager (h) carolina wren yellow billed cuckoo (lots)(h) raven (h) Park is in NE Orange co. Barb Brooks, poet author of the chapbook "The Catbird Sang" Black cap, wings slate gray, feathers dribbled with red.
