Subject: CT Report 12/23/2007
From: Roy Harvey <rmharvey(AT)snet.net>
Date: 23 Dec 2007 10:04pm
Extralimital Note: There is a report of a Slaty-backed Gull in
Gloucester Harbor, MA. For more information see massbird.

Long-eared Owls (Milford), 2 Short-eared Owls (Lordship), Eastern
Phoebe, Yellow-breasted Chat (Lordship), the aforementioned Baltimore
Oriole (Stratford) and 29 Boat-tailed Grackles (Lordship). My

12/30 - Norfolk, Shepard Road -- PINE GROSBEAKS spotted from 9:15 AM
through 10:30 AM, a flock of about 30, with 7 or 8 males. Beautiful

crabapples are still left for them to feast upon.

Wethersfield Cove on and off this month was present in late afternoon
Sunday (12/30). Hundreds of gulls roost at this mostly iced-over cove
overnight. Usually it takes a careful scan here to pick out a
Glaucous or Iceland if they are present.but Sunday the Glaucous Gull
cooperated by sitting and standing on ice near the edge of the parking
lot.
From Clay Taylor:
12/29 - Mystic, Ender's Island -- Razorbill, 3 Red-necked Grebes, 2
Black Scoters, 7 Snow Buntings.
From Bob Bitondi
12/30 - Pomfret Center, yard -- first winter Northern Shrike, perched
for several minutes on the thistle feeder that had Common Redpolls on
it minutes earlier.
Editor's Note:
I have a good second-hand report that a Pine Grosbeak has visited a
crabapple tree in Bridgewater. Since I don't believe we have had any
other reports from that town I am passing it on as one more bit of
information on the state of the finch incursion.
