Stamford, Holly Pond - 54 BONAPARTE'S GULL From Peary Stafford 1/13 - Warren, at the triangle formed by the intersection of Rtes 45 and 341 -- 5 PINE GROSBEAKS, one male, four females From Gene Leganza: 1/13 - Kent, Kent Falls State Park, Rt. 7 just north of Kent -- PINE GROSBEAKS continue in the crabapple trees at the north end of the parking lot. Seen around 11:30 A.M. At least 10 females and 3 males. They alternated feeding and flying off for about an hour, sharing the trees with about half a dozen Robins and a similar number of Ceder Waxwings (yes, we looked; no, no Bohemians among them). Still plenty of fruit left in those trees so maybe they'll stick around. From Eileen and Kevin Finnan: 1/13 - Goshen, residence -- 100+ Common Redpolls. Common Redpolls have been coming to our feeders in flocks of 25 - 50 each day, this past week but, today, the flock exceeded 100 individuals. One of them looked good for a Greater. All at East side of West Beach in the field and parking lot. Meigs Point -- 10 PURPLE SANDPIPERS to the right on Jetty. AMERICAN BITTERN from the blind that is just behind the Meigs Point Nature Center. Old Lyme, Lieutenant River Lane -- YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, MARSH WREN. From Claudia Longmore: 1/13 - Old Lyme, Lieutenant River Lane, YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues. From John Barriger: 1/13 - Old Lyme - 9:00am w/Tom Sayers; YELLOW -BREASTED CHAT appeared 4 or 5 times over a period of 30-45 minutes. Brightest, and most well defined plumage of any chat I've ever seen! East Haven, East Shore Park -- 12:20pm, SNOW GOOSE (Blue Morph) with (12) Canada geese moving about in the small cove (New Haven Harbor) that's directly in back of ball fields. (3) NORTHERN ROUGH-WING SWALLOWS over treatment plant. From Olive Wysocki & Paul Mei: 1/13 - New Haven, East Shore Park, Ball Field #1 -- Dark Phase Snow Goose in with 12 Canada Geese. Also the snow that had accumulated on the branches was not disturbed telling me that they were not there earlier. Today I finally counted over 100 - 103 - in my yard at 1 time, and I'm sure there are more than that, as they are in and out constantly when the flock is here . More often I have between 12 and 30, and sometimes none at all for quite a while. Unfortunately, I have not seen any of the pale Hoary candidates recently From Lynn James, Dori Sosensky: 1/18 - New Haven, East Shore Park -- 4:15pm, Snow Goose; Intergrade, almost fully dark adult Snow Goose, head completely white. Seen at the south end of the park with flock of 20+ Canada From Tom Fiore, Pat Pollock, Malcolm Morris, & K. Wada: 1/17 - Madison, Hammonassett St. Pk. -- 9-10 am, 5 Red Crossbills in western pines at W. Beach parking area, also several Red-breasted Nuthatches in same pines, 1 Lapland Longspur, with 60+ Horned Larks in adjacent west field & parking area. 1/17 - Old Lyme -- 1 Yellow Breasted Chat, 12:30 & 1:30 pm, across from # 17 Lieutenant River Lane in berry bushes next to mailbox. Harrier; Snipe flew high & fast, then circled around and landed on ground within ten feet of us but could not be seen: camouflage) 1/19 - Milford, Bic Drive & West Ave (near Mondo Ponds) -- mature Red-shouldered Hawk From Chris Loscalzo: 1/19 - Woodbridge -- at community gardens BLACK VULTURE, NORTHERN HARRIER (rare at this location); at Massero Farm two BROWN THRASHERS; in yard adult NORTHERN GOSHAWK. From Jamie Meyers: 1/19 - Plainfield, Quinebaug Fish Hatchery -- PURPLE FINCH, BROWN CREEPER. Old Lyme, 17 Lieutenant River Road -- YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT appeared briefly around 9:50 AM. I also spotted a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER fly into a tall pine a couple houses down. Madison, Hammonasset Beach SP -- 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS with lark flock near the nature center. Also a PINE WARBLER feeding with sparrows on the east side of the main access road, about halfway between the entrance gates and the rotary. This is a different bird than was recently with the crossbills on the west end, a much more colorful one. I am told that the crossbills were there today but I didn't check. Ansonia, Ansonia Nature Center -- WINTER WREN, flyover BLACK VULTURE. From Bob Bitondi: 1/18 - Pomfret Center, yard -- 17 Common Redpolls at the nyjer feeders today, another yard record.
