Subject: CT Report 03/11/2008 Long Beach in Stratford closed

IMPORTANT NOTE: LONG BEACH IN STRATFORD IS CLOSED!
Thanks to Charlie Barnard for providing this news.
In the wake of the recent cottage burnings on Long Beach in Stratford,
the town of Stratford has posted signs at the far end of the Long
Beach parking lot which state that there is to be no trespassing onto
Long Beach West - beyond the western end of the parking lot. This is
being enforced, as there have been at least 4 arrests for trespassing
so far. By all appearances, this ban on walking Long Beach West will
be in effect for a long time.

3/13 - Simsbury, the fields north of 185 in the area just across from
Nod Rd -- 2 TUNDRA SWANS in a small puddle at about 2:00 PM.
Unfortunately the birds flew out shortly after we saw them and headed
due south. We had hoped that they would sit down along Nod Road, but a
search as far as the police firing range failed to produce them again.

3/14 - Harwinton -- BOHEMIAN WAXWING in with 12 Cedar Waxwings. To
get there - Take rt 8 north from Waterbury, take Litchfield/ Harwinton
exit. Go east rt 118 up hill. Down hill into Harwinton. At light
intersection rt 4, go left - north. Catholic church on rt,
Congregational church on left. Take left into Cong church, and park.
Look for two crabapple trees by rd. (do not park on rd). The Bohemian
was in with about 12 Cedars. They feed then fly across rd into tall
maple trees. rest there, then back to trees.

on the trail to a large field.

3/15 - Milford, Pond Point Beach and BayView Beach, accessed from
Pelham Ave -- Had a few hundred Bonaparte's Gulls today. Earlier this
week the number was closer to a thousand. They seem to be
congregating in large numbers here this year, instead of at Oyster
River?

3/15 - Meriden, yard -- BLACK VULTURE.
With family:
3/14 - Meriden, horse farm on Johnson Ave -- 2-3 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS
displaying with one flying around the neighborhood. Spring peepers
were weakly calling.

3/15 - Portland, Wangunk Meadows -- 2 male BLUE-WINGED TEALS. Access
the Meadows via the Glastonbury entrance. Birds were noted in a pool
of water with 70+ Green-winged teals about 1/2 mile from the entrance.

3/13-14 Stamford, Holly Pond -- 300 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, no sighting
of the Redhead

3/15 - Southport -- low tide, adult Little Gull with 120 Bonaparte's
Gulls.

3/15 - Waterbury, Bunker Hill residence -- Flock of approx. 50 COMMON
REDPOLLS.

3/15 - Woodmont, Oyster River -- 1 f-w Iceland Gull loafing on the sea
with other gulls. No Boney's.
