Bird was first seen from the steps leading to the beach at the corner of Seaside and Trumbull avenues. It was very close to shore and did not spook even when I went in swimming down the beach. From Alex Burdo: 07/22/09 - Fairfield, Area Around Penfield Reef -- 1:30-2:15, ROYAL TERN frequenting the first jetty to the right of the reef. It also joined the scores of terns feeding on fish in the sound. From Hank Golet 07/22/09 - Old Lyme, Lord's Cove -- 7 FORSTER'S TERNS. From Phil Rusch: 07/22/09 - Windham, Windham Airport -- 3 Pectoral Sandpipers, 4 Eastern Meadowlarks. When you first turn on Tranquility, in the woods on the right, then flew across the street to trees to the right of the farm, then back across to the woods. From Janis LaPointe and Nancy Eaton: 07/22/09 - South Windsor, Strong Road -- The Sedge Wren was vocalizing between 8:30 a.m., when we arrived, and 9:15 a.m., when we left, on (7/22), on the dirt side road off Strong Road, South Windsor. The bird was seen flying short distances, always staying low to the grasses, but ocassionally sitting up for nice views with a scope. Also Bobolink. From Patrick Comins: 07/22/09 - Waterbury -- Air to air combat over I-84 in Waterbury this morning, as there were 2 Peregrine Falcons diving at each other and tangling in mid air over the mix master. The rain was so heavy they would start up again when it stopped a bit. The rain was just too much for any more birding! At 2:45, it was up on one of the dead trees off to the right of Tranquility just as you turn off Rte 64. From Fran and Tom Holloway 07/24/09 - Madison, Hammonasset State Park -- one White-winged Scoter near the jetty, about 8:30. At the end of the Moraine Trail, two roseate terns. No sign of the immature King Eider. Little Blue Heron in the marsh behind the Pebble Beach. From Marty Moore: 07/24/09 - Walingford, Wallingford Rod and Gun Club -- A Red-breasted Nuthatch was feeding and calling early this afternoon. Path leading to field VERY muddy. You should walk in from dirt road. Farm field is an access road from Main Street & Strong. There are may BOBOLINKS here as well. 8:30-9:15am. From Gary & CJ Lemmon: 07/25/09 - South Windsor, Strong Rd -- 4 PM, Sedge Wren continues in the meadow north of the parked farm equipment.  We had the wren just south of the willow tree on the northern edge of the wet meadow.  Also many Bobolinks. From Lori Stopka: 07/25/09 - Middlebury, Tranquility Road -- Red-headed Woodpecker around 3pm. Bird was perched at the very top of a dead tree on the right side of Tranquility Road just off Rte 64.  I stayed about 20 minutes and other then changing perches a few times, the bird pretty much stayed in the same area. From Chris Loscalzo: 07/25/09 - Madison, Hammonassett Beach State Park -- KING EIDER, ROSEATE TERN, LITTLE BLUE HERON. Westbrook, Menunkatesuck River Marsh, seen by kayak -- 16 LITTLE BLUE HERONS: 11 adults, 4 juveniles, and one beautifully mottled second year bird. From Paul Desjardins: 07/25/09 - Madison, Hammonassett Beach State Park -- at end of moraine trail immature King Eider continues. Roseate Tern.
