Cackling Goose 1, Lesser Black-backed Gull 1, and Lesser Scaup 3.

12/19/09 - New Milford portion of Woodbury-Roxbury CBC -- CACKLING
GOOSE on Housantonic R. opposite Youngs Field in downtown area c 7:15
a.m. with 1000+ Canada Geese; later seen flying over CBC territory
just to the north of mine by Dave Tripp, with 100+ Canada Geese; also
adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL standing on ballfield at same site c
12:30 p.m. with Ring-billed and Herring Gulls; the Cackling Goose was
a very frosty-backed hutchinsii showing a thin white neck collar in
head-on view.

Blackbirds, in Edgewood Park in the dog run near Coogan Pavilion;

12/20/09 - Sterling yard -- WESTERN TANAGER, appeared to be bright
female,took a few quick pictures which show orange bill, wing-bars
(upper yellowish, lower white), and darker back. Also made several
flight call type calls (weet). Bird flew off and has not been seen
again. It was seen near but not at very busy feeders.

12/21/09 - Branford, Lavassa Terrace, Stony Creek -- American
Woodcock.
From Paul Cianfaglione:
12/21/09 - South Windsor, Ferry Lane -- 1 very white RED-TAILED HAWK,
I don't know how to categorize this hawk (leucistic?), only normal
pattern seen was pale rufous outer tail feathers, no patagial bars,
hawk was 85% white, the rest was speckled black. 1 adult PEREGRINE
FALCON chasing it for a short time.

12/21/09 - 12/21, Somers, Hutton Rd -- In a mixed flock of about
80-100 birds, mostly HORNED LARKS, were at least 5 SNOW BUNTINGS and 1
LAPLAND LONGSPUR. Ther birds were almost in constant motion so an
accurate count was impossible.

12/21/09 - East Hartford backyard -- at least 3 Rusty Blackbirds in a
large flock of mixed blackbirds.

near a group of about 20 mute swans, some canada geese and ducks, west
of Rt 156 at 4:15 pm.

From Russ Namitz:
12/24/09 - Niantic, Rocky Neck State Park -- FOX SPARROW in the first
creek after the entrance.
From Hank Golet, John and Aubris Peiffer:
12/24/09 - Old Lyme, Black Hall River -- 2 TUNDRA SWANS. Swans were
quite close to the Black Hall/Rt 156 bridge, at around 10:30, then
slowly moved down river (west) . There were a few mute swans in the
area also but the tundra are often times off by themselves.
Brighton Rd -- 5 COMMON EIDER.
From Paul Cianfaglione:
12/24/09 - South Windsor, Strong Road -- 2 SNOW BUNTING.
From Patrice Favreau:
12/24/09 - South Windsor -- 8AM, one Red-breasted Nuthatch in
evergreen outside my kitchen window.
From Paul Desjardins:
12/24/09 - Windsor -- morning, Peregrine Falcon flying east rather low
behind Windsor Post Office.
From Jan Collins:
12/23/09 - Somers, Hutton Rd. fields -- 10:30 AM, at least 2 SNOW
BUNTINGS (with many Horned Larks).

DICKCISSEL found on last week's CBC continues, in the company of many
sparrows including one interestingly pale SAVANNAH SPARROW (possible
Ipswitch?)

12/25/09 - Old Lyme, Great Island Viewing Platform -- 1 TUNDRA SWAN.

viewing platform. From the end of Brighton Rd. there were at least 9
COMMON EIDERS and 2 NORTHERN GANNETS.

12/26/09 - Madison backyard - one male and one female YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER at our feeder, 3:00 pm.
