Subject: Blackpolls this morning
From: "nuthatch3(AT)aol.com" <nuthatch3@AOL.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 7:36am
Well, I still have Blackpoll's hanging around. There are at least 3-4
males and 1 female. There is a little rivalry going on between 2 of the
males - wings thrown out, a little twirl, then the chase. Not sure if they
both are after the female or the bugs in the same tree. Yesterday they
spent all day out there feeding. They sang all day long. Made it easy to
know they were still around. Also spotted and heard yesterday was 1 male
Summer Tanager and finally the Eastern Wood Pewee.
Have a great day!

From: Patricia White <patriciawhite(AT)MINDSPRING.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 11:12am
For the past 5 days I've had 1 to 4 males and 1 female Rose Breasted
Grosbeaks at my platform seed feeder in the back. When I looked a few
minutes ago, there were 2 males and 1 female.
They are really gorgeous in a group.

Subject: Yard birds - our first Indigo
From: Fred Rodriguez <fredsbooks(AT)YAHOO.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 3:00pm
Today has been an active day at and below the feeders and the 3 suet
feeders. As of now (2:45pm) we have counted 20 species including our
first Indigo Bunting, a beautiful male. My grandkids and I and abuelamom
(grandmamon in spanish)have been chasing and scaring away the squirrels
and having fun at it. The birds that have visited are:
Indigo Bunting
Phoebe (our resident now nursing 3 chicks in the nest below our deck)
Brown Thrasher, a frequent visitor
Brown-headed nuthatch
White-bellied nuthatch
Hairy Woodpecker
Red bellied woodpecker
American Goldfinches
House Finch,
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
Carolina Wren
American Crow (boy do they like suet and feed below the feeders, showing
up almost everyday for a few minutes)
Cardinal, 2 males and 1 female
Robin
Song Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Brown-headed Cowbird
Bluebird at the suet
Mourning Dove
We spotted our first chipmonk below the feeder. Delicate little thing. Our
favorite area to watch the birds is from our breakfast table with the big
picture window. Our Rose breasted Grosbeaks are gone. It was a thrill to
see the Indigo which we had seen in So. Florida once before.
Fred and Rebecca Rodriguez, The Falls of Cherokee, Canton, Cherokee CO
(Gabriela and little Benjamin are quite interested in the birds and love
to scare the squirrels).

Subject: Anomalous Pine Warbler song
From: Tim Rose <feralman(AT)MINDSPRING.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 6:20pm
For at least a few days now I've been hearing a bird song I didn't
recognize. Today I finally spotted it. It was a Pine Warbler,
looking like a Pine Warbler and foraging in the Pines, but singing a
song I've never heard from a Pine Warbler. Instead of the normal
monotone trill, it did a shrill, very rapid, strongly descending trill.

Subject: YBC and Bartow County Loop 5/3/08
From: Mark McShane <eagleeyed(AT)BELLSOUTH.NET>
Date: 3 May 2008 7:32pm
Hi All,
After birding Kennesaw Mountain (KMT) this morning I went out to the
Bartow County Loop with one of the 3rd Annual Youth Birding Competition
teams! The team members did a great job correctly identifying the
following shorebird highlights!!!
SEPL Semipalmated Plover
SOSA Solitary Sandpiper
SESA Semipalmated Sandpiper
WESA Western Sandpiper
LESA Least Sandpiper
DUNL Dunlin
We had most of these birds at very close range and got great looks! I
hope that all of the teams had a lot of fun outside and learned a lot
about our Georgia birds (and didn't get too soggy today)!
Good Birding All!

Subject: A stroll down Lake Sovereign
From: Fred Rodriguez <fredsbooks(AT)YAHOO.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 8:44pm
Abuelamom and I and the 2 grandkids took a stroll around Lake Sovereign in
Cherokee Co. near Bridgemill and our Falls of Cherokee. A pair of wood
ducks were in the lake and then along the shore not too far from us. Later
the hen took a bath while the Drake watched the spectacle. They later
hopped onto the grass and walked up a hill. It was about 7:30pm. There
were mallards and Canadian Geese with chicks. A pair of Great Blue Herons
were there and many tree swallows and a few barn swallows. A green heron
flew by. A nice tranquil lake.

Subject: Rare Bird Alert Transcriber needed for May
From: "James F. Flynn Jr." <jim.flynn(AT)MINDSPRING.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 11:24pm
Hi, folks, we are short a Rare Bird Alert (RBA) transcriber/summarizer for
the month of May. Duties include summarizing the voice RBA created
periodically (usually about 8 - 12 times / month) by Jeff Sewell into an
email and sending it to GABO and BIRDEAST (the RBA Listserve for the Eastern
US and Canada). It is quite helpful if you are familiar with the species and
general layout of the state. If you would like to help please let me know
off-list.
Take care,

Subject: House Wren
From: Cindy Tobin <cindyjtobin(AT)AOL.COM>
Date: 3 May 2008 4:28pm
Just after emailing my sister, telling her that I no longer have time for
birding , I decided to hunt down the bird responsible for the beautiful
song I had been hearing all morning. Was so pleased to find a first for my
Cartersville yard, a House Wren. Was a long process, but worth the "chase."
Now back to my life that doesn't allow time for birding! Ya'll enjoy
though!
