[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Northern Parulas are back @ Harris Neck NWR-03/20/10 From: Steve Fox <sfox01(AT)HOTMAIL.COM> Date: 20 Mar 2010 10:10pm Doug Thigpen and I checked out Harris Neck NWR this morning in an attempt to view some spring migrants and any winter stragglers. A great deal of the usual winter suspects were still sticking around and some spring migrant/year-rounders were out singing in full force. Spring activity was abound. The WOOD STORKS were gathering nesting material and jockeying for the natural tree frames and the Gators were hauled out taking in the long anticipated warm spring day. The FOTS highlight was hearing that classic ZREE..ZREE..ZREE..ZREEIP song, followed by the visual of a few Northern Parulas speeding about in the canopy. They were first spotted along the woody pond trail between the main pond and the flooded field/pond down trail. The rest of the birds spotted today are listed below. On a side note, my wife spotted a Swallow-tailed Kite flying over Veterans Parkway this past Monday, spring is here!
