[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: 8 Bald Eagles at Cutright, Lake Monroe From: michael clarke <miclarke(AT)BLOOMINGTON.IN.US> Date: 8 Jan 2002 11:43am I was treated to an awesome sight this morning. Eight Bald Eagles at the Cutright area on Lake Monroe. Seven of them were standing on the ice together within 100 feet of each other about 200 yds. east of the boat ramp. The eighth eagle was standing alone on the ice about 300 yds. northeast of the boat ramp. Four of these birds were adults, three appeared to be second year immature and one was almost certainly a third year immature. I watched for about five minutes. The adults seemed very stoic but several of the immature were actively hopping around and interacting with each other. Six of the seven grouped together took off at the same time and headed west across the causeway. The seventh of that group took off about a minute later and the lone adult a few seconds after that. What a great way to add Bald Eagle to my year list! -Mike Clarke Bloomington

[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Re: Houston birding spots - Dallas too! - and Las Vegas From: Alan Anderson <casresearch(AT)ATTBI.COM> Date: 8 Jan 2002 11:12pm Well, as long as Mary and Carl are asking for information about birding in Texas, I might as well add that I will be visiting Dallas, TX in March, and would like to have suggestions as to places to go birding in Dallas and that area. As I might not have a car during the time (work related training), is there any good parks within the city accessible by bus that would be even halfway decent to go birding in? Also, just in case someone has information about good places around Las Vegas, Mary Hennen (who isn't either an IN-BIRD or an IBET subscriber) would like some suggestions for areas within an hour or two drive from there. Is Lake Mead a decent birding spot? For Dallas birding spots, please e-mail me at casresearch(AT)attbi.com and for Las Vegas area birding spots, please e-mail Mary Hennen at mhennen(AT)fieldmuseum.org Thanks much!
