I decided to vary my usual morning trip to Lake Monroe today (1/23)
and birded the Fairfax area instead of Paynetown and Cutright. A few
things around, but still pretty quiet. The highlights included:
Pied-billed Grebe - 9
Am. Coot - 70
Mallard - 16
No. Pintail - 2
Co. Goldeneye - 2
Ring-billed Gull - 65
Killdeer - 2

Had a flock of 60 sandhills over my house this afternoon at 4:15 PM -
headed west, northwest. I live straight west of Indianapolis, west of
Danville and US 36. Only the second flock I have seen all fall or
winter!

Hey Guys,
Here's a report of Middlefork Reservoir and Springwood Park. Dan Greene and
I went out today at about one this afternoon and got a great variety of
birds at both locations. I got two life birds today.*
The most noticeable were the Richardson's Geese and the Common Goldeneye
which were both reported at the same location the other day. The CG
reported the other day however was apparently male, indicating different
birds. I suggest anyone with free time to go see the Richardson's Geese
because of the rarity of this sighting here. The birds are at the south end
of the lake but BEWARE apparently the dam is off limits even outside of the
No Trespassing area. The police asked us to stay back from that area
because it "is under surveillance." Whatever that means. (It is the best
view of the geese though- "wink-wink")

Canada Goose- Common Race- ~2000
RICHARDSON'S Race*- 4 (possibly 6- two birds may have been
seen twice,
very noticeable from the rest of the geese when directly next to the
Common's but are easily lost in the masses)
Mallard- ~1000
American Black Duck ~ 40

Hooded Merganser- 6
