[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Sharp Shinned Hawk From: Anne Spence <spenceam(AT)MINDSPRING.COM> Date: 23 Jan 2002 10:48am ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Jan 23 02 1045 My backyard has had a Sharp Shinned Hawk visitor for over a month now. Infrequently seen in the backyard perching, praying on the Hummingbirds, American Goldfinches, Lesser Goldfinches, White & Goldcrowned Sparrows and House Finches. NOW he's in the backyard ALL day. What a great opportunity to study this species up close....but where'd the birds go? Please come see the pictures I have taken of this wonderful bird! http://community.webshots.com/user/antilleanmango Anne Spence Watsonville, CA ----DELETED text/html MIME SECTION---- ((To unsubscribe MBB, send the command UNSUBSCRIBE MBB <YOUR MBB EMAIL ADDRESS> to <majordomo(AT)darwin.ucsc.edu>.))
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Orchard Oriole From: Roger Wolfe <rogwolfe(AT)cruzio.com> Date: 23 Jan 2002 3:50pm Roy Carlson and I were lucky enough to refind the male ORCHARD ORIOLE that Michelle Scott reported yesterday. The bird was low in the shrubs alongside the nature trail near marker #3 at Natural Bridges. The bird wasn't very active thus allowing us lingering views. I don't have the icterid book but I think that this bird is a first year male just coming into adult plumage as the mantle of the bird was a mottled brown contrasting with the black head and chestnut body. The wing coverts also appearred brownish and mottled and the plumage looked quite fresh. Cheers, Roger ((To unsubscribe MBB, send the command UNSUBSCRIBE MBB <YOUR MBB EMAIL ADDRESS> to <majordomo(AT)darwin.ucsc.edu>.))
