I am personally aware of only one specific recently used nest site of Golden
Eagle in Santa Cruz County. It is in the Corralitos region and is apparently
not used every year. Another area that has reportedly had family groups with
fledged juveniles in multiple recent years is the Laguna Creek watershed
(adjacent to the Majors Creek area Brian referred to). The observer in this
case suspected where the nest might generally be, but has not seen courtship
or regular flights by adults earlier in the nesting season prior to the
appearance of the fledglings, so it is perhaps unlikely that a nest is
present in the area where she sees the family group after fledging. Then I
periodically hear vague reports of other possible or "known" nest sites, but
no details have come to my attention, and sometimes a desire to maintain
secrecy is expressed. All this is just to say that for the records I would
very much welcome any info on known Golden Eagle nests in the county, or even
reasonable rumors or other leads that might lead to discovery of a nest.

The Monterey Peninsula Audubon Society has a web site at
http://montereyaudubon.org/ . The site has announcements about field trips
and meetings and other great info for birders.
another non-profit site with much information about local birding is Don
Roberson's "Creagrus" web site at http://montereybay.com/creagrus Go to his
"Monterey County" page for a portal to local birding sites, or try the
"links" page to reach various pelagic boat trip operators and providers of
local birding services on Elkhorn Slough and elsewhere.
Pleas report your sightings to the Birdbox at 831-626-6605 not to our email

Subject: Virus message received today marked as coming from MBB
From: Matt Williams <mattwilliamsjr(AT)yahoo.com>
Date: 28 Jan 2002 10:47pm
BEWARE
With a time stamp of 10:40 AM today I received a virus message from MBB
with the subscriber name of James & Anne Williams.
The message was empty and the address started with an underscore
character so it appeared as follows:
James & Anne Williams <_jimanne(AT)cruzio.com>
However when I clicked on the message it tried to download a program to
my hard drive. Fortunately my Netscape caught it and prevented it from
downloading.
The subject of the message was identical word for word to a message I
sent to MBB the first week in January regarding the Burrowing Owl we had
seen in Moss Landing
