[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Concord Correction From: "PAMELA HUNT" <biodiva(AT)myfairpoint.net> Date: 9 Nov 2009 8:14am Hi again, A poin of coorection, one of the participants in the Concord Birding Challenge this weekend was Jane HILLS, not Jane Rice. My excuse is that I know both these people, and maybe Jane Rice a little better. But in any event, Jane Hills needs to be properly acknowledged as a member of the team. Sorry Jane! Pam (fill in the blank here, just keep it clean)

[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: White-Fonted Goose in rye, Red Headed Woodpecker near NH... From: lee hansche <xxleeweexx(AT)yahoo.com> Date: 9 Nov 2009 6:07pm I know it's not in NH but it may as well be... Ther are a small group of Red-Headed Woodpeckers in Dracut Mass just over the NH boarder, 2 adults and 1 juvinile... Its worth a drive down... I had mapquest direstions that didnt work so well but i wrote down some basic directions on my way out... -Take 128 south from the derry (area 12 mile or so from derry) -after you get in to Mass look for Lake View Rd, take a right on it (its a major road, if you get to a downtownish area you went too far) -take a right on to nashua rd -Left on to Tyngsboro rd -left on county rd -left on Althea rd -left on to Trotting park rd... at the end of trotting park rd you will see a trail with a gate across it on the right (the birds arent down that trail, i checked haha)... across the road from that gate (left side of road as you drive in) go through a short section of woods to a wetland area... this is where the birds have been seen... there are houses around so be respectful when you are parking and waliking through the woods... Back on the NH side i went and checked out the Greater White-Fronted Goose in Rye... The bird had moved on to the lawn of a rich looking house and as i scoped i felt like the owners might have me arrested but they didnt, haha... I looked for the Eurasian Wigeon in exeter but didnt find it... it was a quick stop but i did see... Green wing teal Lesser Scaup Snow buntings (2) and the rest of the usuals There was also a Coot at Powder house pond... Lee hansche Goffstown NH

[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: Eurasian Wigeon- YES at Great Bay Discovery Center on Sunday 11/8 @ 1400 From: Rich stanton <rich_stanton2003(AT)yahoo.com> Date: 9 Nov 2009 6:56pm I apologize for the delayed report, but I was briefly able to view the Eurasian Wigeon on Sunday afternoon from the Great Bay Discovery Center at about 1400 hours on Sunday 11/8/09. The bird flew to the opposite end of the bay with several American Wigeon and landed out of scope range on the opposite side of Great Bay. I was unsuccessful in locating an ICELAND GULL at the Exeter WWTP, although I am not terribly familiar with the species. The NORTHERN SHOVELER was still present at the WWTP at 1545 hrs, however. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: 8 Tundra Swans.....Yes.....and then gone! From: Steve Mirick <smirick(AT)comcast.net> Date: 9 Nov 2009 8:25pm Jane and I (on vacation) along with Ben Griffith and Lauren Kras took off to Chatham, NH this afternoon with the report of 7 Tundra Swans. We got there at about 2:00 PM and soon Bob Crowley led us to the edge of the Lower Kimball Pond where we quickly saw the 8 birds (not 7 as previous reported). All clearly swimming on the Maine side of the pond!! Incredibly, after a two hour drive, within 5 minutes of getting the birds in our scopes, a man in a canoe ventured out into the pond and flushed the swans along with all the Canada Geese and Goldeneyes on the pond. The swans flew up and then veered to the WSW heading roughly in the direction of Upper Kimball Pond. We watched them continue west as the flew past the pond, and barely saw them as they crossed over the NH state line (tick!) and out of sight. We tried in vane to relocate them on Upper Kimball Pond. Also checked Conway Lake, but no luck. Maybe they'll be on Great Bay tomorrow! Otherwise a couple of birds of some interest: Snow Goose - 1 adult with 125 Canada Geese in inlet to Conway Lake Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 along Potter Road in Conway. And a photo of the immature Greater White-fronted Goose from earlier in the day along Rt. 111 in North Hampton: http://home.comcast.net/~smirick//photos/greaterwhitefrontedgoose22.jpg Steve & Jane Mirick Bradford, MA
