[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: am Sunset Farm, etc. From: Len Medlock <lenmedlock(AT)comcast.net> Date: 29 Nov 2009 4:30pm Brief stop at Sunset Farm this morning: Canada Goose 450, more distant birds difficult to count American Black Duck 19 Greater Scaup 575 conservative number; gun fire scattered them a little closer to shore but couldn't pick out anything unusual Greater/Lesser Scaup 125 raft of mixed flock flew in front as hunters left area Bufflehead 9 Common Goldeneye 27 Red-necked Grebe 1 An Iceland Gull was visiting the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant this morning but didn't stay long. Waterfowl survey of Powwow late afternoon produced only 4 Mallards--where the fowl at? This report was generated automatically by eBird v2(http://ebird.org/nh) Len Medlock Exeter, NH
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: NH Coast (OC Warbler, Palm Warbler, another Glaucous Gull) From: Steve Mirick <smirick(AT)comcast.net> Date: 29 Nov 2009 5:13pm Jane and I hit the coast again today. Still strong winds, but not as strong as yesterday and more out of the southwest with lots of sun and warmer temperatures making it to about 52F. Unfortunately, no good goldfinch migration like last year, and it's not looking good for Cave Swallows unless we get one with the next cold front this week. We were happy to get 3 species of warblers today, however no MacGillivray's Warblers! (there are 2 of them currently being seen in the Boston area). Some photos and a list of highlights: http://home.comcast.net/~smirick//glaucousgull4.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~smirick//merlin1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~smirick//orangecrownedwarbler2.jpg Pied-billed Grebe - 1 - On Eel Pond. Double-crested Cormorant - 1 - At least one in Hampton harbor. Bald Eagle - 1 - Almost full adult soaring over Odiorne. Had thin dark tail band. Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 Merlin - 1 perched on power lines at Hampton wastewater treatment plant. Black-legged Kittiwake - 1 - Adult off Little Boar's Head. Bonaparte's Gull - 36 - 36 adults off Jenness Beach. A few more scattered elsewhere. GLAUCOUS GULL - 1 - 1st winter bird in Hampton harbor from parking lot south of fisherman's coop in Seabrook. DIFFERENT BIRD from Glaucous Gull seen yesterday. Black Guillemot - 1 - One off Little Boar's Head. Horned Lark - 22 Eastern Bluebird - 12 - 6 at Odiorne. 6 at Urban Forestry Center. Yellow-rumped Warbler - 4 at Hampton wastewater treament plant Pam Warbler (western) - 1 at Hampton wastewater treatment plant ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - 1 off Rt. 111 at Little River saltmarsh overlook. More than likely the same bird seen by Marshall Iliff on 11/17. My 4th (!) of the fall for NH and I missed the one on Star Island! also..... MEADOWHAWK SP. (dragonfly) - Seen off Spruce Road in North Hampton. Not surprising given the very mild fall we've had so far. The latest dragonfly record for the state is December 2nd of a meadowhawk in Rochester. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: walpole dickcissel continues From: "Eric Masterson" <emasterson(AT)plcnh.org> Date: 29 Nov 2009 5:16pm I spent a few hours in the lower CT valley today. VERY quiet, and I suspect it will stay this way until the cold weather arrives to push birds south. The Dickcissel found almost a month ago by Ken Klapper just north of the Walpole/Westmoreland town line continues. It is hanging out with a few tree sparrows about fifty yards north of the line on the east side of the road, exactly as Ken described in previous posts. My first for the valley. The only other birds of note were two red-necked grebes on Spofford, two buffleheads at Hinsdale, and two Bald Eagles on Howe Reservoir. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: no great whiter fronted goose From: fiddlinbill(AT)aol.com Date: 29 Nov 2009 5:47pm Well for the 3rd time I went to runnymeade farm on route 111 and the Greater white fronted goose eluded me. I thought I saw it scurry behind the house as my car pulled into the parking lot. A short trip down the coast-- red breasted Mergs 4 where 111 meets route 1A A loon off ragged neck Rye. Very beautiful today but quiet. Bill Perry from Hampstead
