[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: More coastal birds From: "PAMELA HUNT" <biodiva(AT)myfairpoint.net> Date: 23 Jan 2010 7:56pm Greetings all, Becky Suomala and I were also scouting for the superbowl today, and in the cooperative spirit of Steve's post, here are our sightings of note. Our team, the "Twitchers in the Rye," restricts itself to that town, and we thus thank Steve for his good finds on our turf, as well as wishing him and the other teams luck with finding our goodies. The best of the latter are as follows: female Barrow's Goldeneye fairly close to shore just south of Concord Point great looks at a THICK-BILLED MURRE in the surf at the far southern end of Jenness Beach at least 2 Horned Larks in the salt marsh just north of Concord Point Hermit Thrush feeding on flies with robins in the wrack line at Odiorne - near the relatively new "first settlers" monument along the shore of the cove north of the Seacoast Science Center. The number of bugs in the wrack and on the snow was amazing for a January day that started in the single digits and didn't break the freezing point. And of course the Odiorne Eastern Screech-Owl was in her/his hole, with a somewhat surreal collection of photographers from 4 states oggling her/him. Best of luck to all next Saturday! Pam Hunt Penacook, NH
[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: 19 Redtail Hawks From: Tim McEachern <natureswings(AT)live.com> Date: 23 Jan 2010 8:57pm Went for a drive to Springfield MA today from Keene and on route 91 from the Northfield MA exit as a passenger, I counted 19 Red tail hawks 3 had made kills in the median. This stretch of highway always produces lots of red tails as there was very little snow in the median.
