Snow started around 12:05 and I left just after 12:30, because of lack of activity and impending winter storm. Raptor Observations: No special features on raptors. There was one local Red-tail, and two birds that came west and then returned - none of these was counted Non-raptor Observations: 198 Tundra Swans flew right over the field for good photos (90 @9:50, and groups of 85 and 23 around 10:10). 24 Cedar Waxwings visited about 3 times. Predictions: Winter storm warning for tomorrow ======================================================================== Report submitted by Mike Street (mikestreet1(AT)gmail.com) Beamer Conservation Area, Grimsby, ON information may be found at: http://www.hwcn.org/link/niaghawk/ Site Description: Beamer Conservation Area is located on top of the Niagara Escarpment above the town of Grimsby, Ontario. Weather: Cloudy in the AM with a fair bit of blue sky later. Winds quite strong so the air temperature was dropped a lot by wind chill. Raptor Observations: First Bald Eagles and Turkey Vultures counted at Beamer this season. Here they come! Snow on the ground reflected the light beautifully on the birds' plumages. Barry Cherriere, Tim Foran, Phil Waggett and David Weare helped with the count today. Non-raptor Observations: Predictions: Several TVs dropped into the ravine on the east side late in the day, so there could be a TV upflight early Friday. Good numbers of RTs seen today at Hamburg and Braddock Bay NY suggest more birds at Beamer tomorrow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Bill Smith () Beamer Conservation Area, Grimsby, ON information may be found at: http://www.hwcn.org/link/niaghawk/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds]Ruffed Grouse in Carleton Place [Susan and Iain Wilkes] From: "IAIN WILKES" <iain.wilkes(AT)sympatico.ca> Date: 8 Mar 2008 10:39am First time I have seen a Ruffed Grouse inside the town limits of Carleton Place. At noon on Saturday, Mar 8th, on the south side of Coleman St just east of Park, a single Ruffed Grouse was feeding high up in a tree. Guess tearing down all of the trees at the edge of town to put up a parking lot does have consequences. iain and susan wilkes carleton place _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
