Subject: [Ontbirds]Humber Bay East Park
From: Bob Hawkins <bhawkins(AT)idirect.com>
Date: 10 Mar 2008 3:14am
At Humber Bay East Park the Harlequin Duck pair were found at the east
end of the park peninsula. Two Horned Grebes were also just off shore
feeding. At the bridge just north of the parking lot near the butterfly
garden we saw two American Coots and four Trumpeter Swans (two adults
and two juveniles). One adult was had a silver leg band but the band was
not readable.
Humber Bay East Park is at the south end of Park Lawn Road. Take the
first right turn to the parking lot (ploughed today!). The bridge is
just to the north, A 5-10 minute walk will take you to the east end of
the peninsula.

Subject: [Ontbirds]Rough-legged Hawk and Horned Larks in St.
Catharines
From: "Jean and Bob" <bob.jean(AT)sympatico.ca>
Date: 10 Mar 2008 12:55pm
Hello All,
This afternoon at 2:20 PM my wife and I observed a Rough-legged Hawk in west
St. Catharines. From St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81), we observed
the hawk sitting in a tree (between Vansickle Road and First Street Louth).
It flew to another tree and we observed it from First Street Louth, slightly
north of St. Paul Street West. It then flew north and landed in a tree near
the railway tracks, north of 5th Avenue Louth.
While we were on 5th Avenue we observed 6 Horned Larks at the side of the
road.

St. Catharines, ON
Directions:
>From downtown St. Catharines travel west on St. Paul Street West. First
Street Louth is 1.5 km west of downtown St. Catharines. To reach 5th
Avenue, turn right onto First Street. 5th Avenue Louth is the first left.

Subject: [Ontbirds] Male Pileated Woodpecker, Oakville, 10 March 2008
at 14:58
From: "Matt Ryan" <matt99f(AT)cogeco.ca>
Date: 10 Mar 2008 3:38pm
To the Coordinator, Hi.
For the first time in fifteen years of living on the edge of Joshua's Creek
ravine in southeast Oakville (near Devon and Ford) I spotted a Pileated
Woodpecker.
It was investigating the bark on an Ash tree about 35 feet from my bedroom
window but did not stay long enough for me to grab a picture.
I would be interested to know if any other sightings of this bird have been
reported.
Matt Ryan
