[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds]Screech and saw-whets. From: "Don Perks" <dperks0531(AT)rogers.com> Date: 25 Mar 2008 10:48am Saw both species of owls last evening at dusk at Rattray's by the Green Glade school. Take exit 126 at Southdown Rd.south to the Lakeshore Rd.turn east to Meadow Wood Dr.south to Green Glade. The saw-whets were on the grown about 10 feet from me they then flew off into the woods south of the path to-wards the creek.Later the screech owls flew in rather high up and followed me to the creek and the Bexhill area. Good luck Don perks _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds]Greater Snow Geese - Cornwall From: Brian.Morin(AT)pc.gc.ca Date: 25 Mar 2008 3:18pm I had a few small to medium-sized flocks of Greater Snow Geese heading east over Cornwall today - close to 400 in total. There were also numerous small flocks of Canadas. Other spring additions for the day included more Robins, Cedar Waxwings, a couple of Great Blue Herons, Killdeer, Turkey Vulture and Grackle, all over the downtown area. I don't know of any open ground in the region although there could be a few small patches. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds]Ottawa sightings From: Eve Ticknor <sandbird(AT)magma.ca> Date: 25 Mar 2008 6:57pm This afternoon, around 4, I had a Turkey Vulture fly over my car on Carling and Holly Acres Rd, heading towards Andy Haydon Park. A bit further up, on Cedarview Rd, a pair of Red-tailed Hawks ( I have seen them here a few weeks ago) mating in the tree in the middle of the field. The female seemed to have a very light tail from the underside, while the male's tail is all red. Both these locations can be accessed via the 416 / 417. Also, our resident Peregrine Falcons are being seen more often at the Crowne Plaza and today were seen mating. Spring, where are you???? [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [Ontbirds]Ring-necked Duck at Humber Bay East Park, Toronto From: Mark Field <cdnbiboy(AT)hotmail.com> Date: 25 Mar 2008 5:00pm Hello All, Despite the rather unpleasant weather, I decided to stop in and check the waterfowl habitat at Humber Bay East Park around 7pm today. I was rewarded with a male Ring-necked Duck in the northeast "cell". This is the first time I have seen this species in the park.
