Interest in birds continues to grow, and as it does so comes a need for greater information about bird populations. Many projects require the use of point counts and other methods that call for highly skilled birders, both as volunteers and as paid technicians. To address this growing need, Audubon Pennsylvania, DCNR, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission are teaming up to offer training on survey methods and bird identification. This training is geared to adult birders who already have solid abilities in bird identification, particularly visual ID. The workshop will focus on how to do point counts, strategies on counting & estimating bird numbers, challenging bird ID topics (such as flycatchers, swallows, shorebirds, etc….), and especially improving birding by ear skills. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------- Workshop Information Date: September 11, 2004 Time: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM Location: Presque Isle State Park, Stull Interpretive Center (Erie County, PA) Fee: $30.00 (includes snacks and handouts).
