This evening there were two Avocets at the Martins Creek PPL flyash basin. This
is the second record for this location and the third county record. I am
trying to work with the company so that birders will have access to this site in
the future.

Subject: [PABIRDS] Shorebird Fallout at PPL's Washingtonville plant,
Montour Co. 9/9
From: Wayne Laubscher <wlaubsch(AT)CUB.KCNET.ORG>
Date: 10 Sep 2004 12:21am
A significant shorebird fallout also occurred yesterday at PPL's
Washingtonville plant on the fly ash basin. Poor light conditions and
wind made identifications challenging at times amongst the 200+
sandpipers but late in the afternoon I found (at least) the following:
Red-necked Phalarope- 1
Gr. Yellowlegs- 12
L. Yellowlegs- 5
Dowitcher (prob. Short-billed)- 10
Sanderlings- 5
Ruddy Turnstones- 7
Pectoral Sandpipers- 8
White-rumped Sandpipers- 4
Baird's Sandpipers- 2
Semipalmated Sandpipers- many
Least Sandpipers- many
Semipalmated Plovers- 3
Black Tern (juv.)- 1
Forster's Terns- 3
Caspian Tern- 1
Osprey- 1

Subject: [PABIRDS] Red-necked Phalarope, White-rumped Sandpipers,
more at South Avis, Clinton Co., 9/9
From: Wayne Laubscher <wlaubsch(AT)CUB.KCNET.ORG>

Clinton County seldom gets unusual storm-related birds this time of year
but a few good birds showed up yesterday on the rejuvenated "big puddle"
at the South Avis fields. On my returning from Washingtonville, Joe
Lipar alerted me to a White-rumped Sandpiper and some Yellowlegs he saw
there in the late afternoon. I stopped there around 7:00 p.m. and found
not only 3 White-rumped Sandpipers and both Yellowlegs (3 Greater and 2
Lesser) but one Red-necked Phalarope, that being the second in a second
location in the span of a few hours. Also present were 3 Least and 2
Semipalmated Sandpipers. I think that there are only two previous
records for Red-necked Phalarope in Clinton County. Also earlier in the
day Dave Rockey observed two Caspian Terns and one probable Forster's
Tern over the Susquehanna River at Lock Haven. I saw 5 Caspians there
on the previous day.

Subject: [PABIRDS] More Evening Grosbeaks ? - Lycoming County
From: Steve Pinkerton <stevepinkerton(AT)SUSCOM.NET>
Date: 10 Sep 2004 10:52pm
Dear PaBirders,
Today around 6pm I Got a phone call from my brother and his wife who were having
dinner at the home of Family members who live 4 miles west of South
Williamsport. They called to tell me that they had "Evening Grosbeaks",
as many as 10 flying around the property. I told them that they need to start
consuming more food and less wine but they still insisted that the Evening
Grosbeaks were being seen... Well as many of you out there would have done I
totally dismissed the story 5 minutes after I hung up, Thinking there is no way,
The id must be wrong .
Now I come home and see that Eric Anderson also had Evening Grosbeaks in
Lycoming County and it makes me wonder !!!! Could it be ?????
