Audubon Pennsylvania and it's many partners are celebrating the recently completed Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail guide - a compilation of over 200 bird and wildlife sites, trails and scenic drives around the Susquehanna River watershed where you can view wildlife in their unique habitats. The festival will run from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and is for both children and adults. The festival kicks off at the Wildwood Lake Sanctuary with an 8:00 a.m. bird walk with naturalist Chris Rebert. The day continues with a variety of informative and interesting activities for the entire family including Raptor Identification; Birding by Ear; Nature Photography with Hal Korber; Birds of the Lower Susquehanna; Choosing Optimum Optics with Aden Troyer of Lost Creek Shoe Shop; and the Flora of Wildwood Lake. Kids will learn about birds and bird migration with various activities that will run throughout the day. For a complete schedule, please visit our website at http://pa.audubon.org. Exhibitors at the festival will include Appalachian Audubon Society, Dauphin County Wildlife Rescue, The Bluebird Society of PA, DEP Peregrine Falcon Display, Susquehanna River Birding and Wildlife Trail and Lost Creek Shoe Shop. Never got a good enough look. The bird was fairly low when first spotted while we were in the woods looking through the trees but by the time we ran to the parking lot the bird was high and moving away. High cirus above the cumulus did not keep out the sun effects. Observations: Yes, BroadwingSEPT is not scheuled to start until Monday, but conditions for migration looked good and we did an earlybird scouting of the site. Did not arrive until 2:00 EDT and the migration was well underway. We were immediately greated with a kettle of 107 BW, 1 BE and 2 OS. Two other kettles (25 and 54)were found around 3:30 EDT. About 4:00 EDT, the migration shut down. Predictions: Much the same weather. Light and variable.
