[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [PABIRDS] N.Lebanon co. Hermit Thrush From: Chuck Chalfant <chuckchalfant(AT)COMCAST.NET> Date: 13 Oct 2004 9:04pm Greetings Pa.Birders, Ten birders made up our Wed. Group for our trip to Memorial Lake and Second Mountain Hawk Watch in N.Lebanon Co. Penna. It seemed as if there was very little migration movement last night as it was very quiet in good habitat around Mem.Lake. But it was a great morning for a walk around a very picturesque Lake and the waters surface was like a mirror. We did manage to see 37 species from 9:00 till 1:00. Better birds for the day were; Pied-bill Grebe (1st of fall) Sharp-shinned hawk (perched for a few seconds) Pileated Wood-pecker Ruby Kinglet Hermit Thrush (1st of fall) just a quick glimpse Cedar Waxwing (flock of 50 plus) Yellow-rumped Warblers Chipping Sparrows (15 or so in one group) White-throated sparrows Dark-eyed Junco Coot Things were very slow at the hawk watch with only 4 sharpies by 1:00. But the A-10 Wart Hogs put on a good show for a half hour of practice runs up and down the valleys, the sound of their 20mm. rapid fire cannons was quite impressive as was their disgorging of flares on their turns, to deceive the heat seeking missiles that would be on their tails in a real life situation. Next week is Safe Harbor. Happy Trails, Chuck Chalfant Gap Penna. E.Lancaster Co.
