This report covers a two week period and will be updated again on the 10th. Two AMERICAN WOODCOCKS were displaying over the fields at Trustom Pond NWR on the 24th, and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen at dusk on the 27th. On the 27th in Hopkinton along Route 91, 2 COMMON RAVENS were reported flying north. One COMMON REDPOLL briefly visited a feeder in Burrillville on the 28th and the 1st. A GLAUCOUS GULL was reported from Bold Point in East Providence on the 26th, and on the 27th one was observed at Greenwich Bay in Warwick. A GLAUCOUS GULL was also spotted with the hoards of HERRING GULLS at the Central Landfill in Johnston on the 3rd. At Watchemocket Cove in East Providence on the 27th there were 4 BLACK-HEADED GULLS. At the East Providence Reservoir, 3 REDHEADS, 3 WOOD DUCKS, 1 ICELAND GULL and 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. A MERLIN was seen in Warren on the 2nd. In the Weekapaug section of Westerly, off Wawaloam Drive, a THICK-BILLED MURRE and an AMERICAN KESTREL on the 27th. At White Brook in Richmond, 22 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 1 WINTER WREN and 9 GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS. A male EURASIAN WIGEON continues in the pond on the East side of Boyd's Lane in Portsmouth, and a male and female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were seen again at Sachuest Point in Middletown on the 19th. Finally, BALD EAGLE reports came from several locations over the past two weeks. At the Charlestown Breachway an adult on the 27th, in Providence, at the Providence and Seekonk Rivers, an immature, and an adult was seen in Warwick. The species count for February was 113 species reported plus 10 common species, for a total of 123. The year-to-date total is 147. No new species reported since the Pine Siskins on 2/17. A COMMON RAVEN was seen and heard calling in Scituate at the intersection of Route 14 and Route 102 on the 5th. On the 7th at Napatree Point in Westerly, a juvenile male KING EIDER was seen with about 15 COMMON EIDER. Other birds reported here that day include: 14 COMMON LOON, 9 HORNED GREBE, 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 3 RUDDY TURNSTONE, 12 SANDERLING, 38 PURPLE SANDPIPER, 39 DUNLIN and 1 HORNED LARK. In Misquamicut, 1 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was observed on the 5th, and another ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen over the fields to the east of Trustom Pond on the 10th. At Sachuest Point NWR on the 5th, 1 BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 60 HARLEQUIN DUCK, 2 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 2 SHORT-EARED OWL and 20 SNOW BUNTING. A SHORT-EARED OWL was also seen at Trustom Pond NWR on the 10th. A COMMON REDPOLL was seen at a feeder in North Smithfield on the 6th. Another COMMON REDPOLL has been frequenting a feeder in the Mapleville section of Burriville along with about 120 AMERICAN GOLDFINCH most days this past week. At White Brook in Richmond a EURASIAN WIGEON was reported on the 5th and the 10th. Also on the 10, 2 WOOD DUCK and 10 NORTHERN PINTAIL. At St.Mary's Pond in Portsmouth,a PEREGRINE FALCON was sighted on the 5th, and another PEREGRINE report came from the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown on the 6th. There was also a FOX SPARROW here, and AMERICAN WOODCOCK have been sighted displaying over the field. At Watchemoket Cove in East Providence, 4 BLACK-HEADED GULL continue. Also in East Providence, 2 ICELAND GULL, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL and 3 REDHEAD continue at the reservoir along Route 152. Two BALD EAGLES were seen here on the 6th. This weeks report contains many lingering winter species, with a few early spring migrants. At Sachuest Point in Middletown, a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen on the 11th. On the 12th, at White Brook in Richmond, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 2 WOOD DUCK and 1 HAIRY WOODPECKER. In Arcadia Management Area in Exeter, 1 PILEATED WOODPECKER, also on the 12th. Two SNOW GEESE were reported with CANADA GEESE in the field on the East side of North Main Road in Jamestown, just north of Weeden Lane on the 17th. At Warwick City Park in Warwick, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON was spotted with 70 AMERICAN WIGEON on the 15th. Two SHORT-EARED OWLS continue this week in the fields over Trustom Pond NWR, seen from the end of Moonstone Beach Road. A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen along Moonstone Beach Road this past week. A RUFFED GROUSE was seen in Cranston on the 14th. Four PINE WARBLERS have been visiting a feeder in Smithfield for several weeks. One ICELAND GULL and 3 REDHEADS continue at the East Providence Reservoir, along with: 22 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 15 GADWALL, 9 WOOD DUCK, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE, 112 RING-NECKED DUCK, 19 COMMON MERGANSER, 171 CANVASBACK, 6 HOODED MERGANSER, 5 AMERICAN COOT, and 5 LESSER SCAUP. A BROWN THRASHER was recorded in Narragansett. On the 13th, 2 BLACK-HEADED GULL were seen at Bold Point in Providence. An adult BALD EAGLE was seen in Providence on the 14th. On the 13th, 2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER were seen at Plymouth Rocks on the South side of Rose Island in Newport. A TREE SWALLOW was seen on the 16th, flying over water from east to west in the direction of Sachuest Point in Middletown. FOX SPARROWS were reported from several locations. This report covers the period from March 28th to March 24th, and will be updated again on March 31st. A very slow week with most sightings of birds reported earlier in the month. Birders along on a fishing trip out of Galilee on the 19th recorded the following: in Block Island Sound, 17 RAZORBILL, 1100 COMMON EIDER. Ten miles SSE of Block Island, 2 COMMON MURRE, 17 RAZORBILL, 4 NORTHERN GANNET. At Cox's Ledge, 1 DOVEKIE, 11 COMMON MURRE, 5 NORTHERN GANNET and 3 BRANT. A PILEATED WOODPECKER was observed at Arcadia Management Area in Exeter on the 19th. It was seen near the old picnic shelter in the Stepstone Falls area along the Ben Utter Trail. Two HAIRY WOODPECKERS and an EASTERN PHOEBE were also recorded that day. There were 2 reports of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK. One was seen on the 19th in the Misquamicut area, and another was reported in the Moonstone/Mud Pond area. A SHORT-EARED OWL continues in the fields over Trustom Pond NWR, and a FOX SPARROW was seen on the 19th. At Napatree Point on the 22nd, 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK, 4 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, 28 PURPLE SANDPIPER and 12 DUNLIN. On the 23rd at Watchemoket Cove in East Providence, 2 BLACK-HEADED GULLS, including one adult with a full hood. Two WILSON'S SNIPE were reported on the 24th in the wet field on the North side of Green Lane in Middletown. One REDHEAD continues at the East Providence Reservoir, along with a PIED-BILLED GREBE. One GREAT EGRET was seen in Little Compton and one was seen at Easton's Pond in Newport. A SNOWY EGRET was reported from Newport, on Big Pond along Old Beach Road. The first PIPING PLOVER was observed this week. A few OSPREY and TREE SWALLOWS were reported as well. This report covers the period from March 25th to March 31st, and will be updated again on April 7th. A COMMON RAVEN was seen on the 25th over the field at the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown. Also in Middletown, another sighting of COMMON RAVEN on the 29th. This bird was calling and seen sitting atop a telephone pole on the west side of the street at the corner of West Main Road and Oliphant Lane. At Parker Woodland in Coventry, along the blue trail in the Coventry tract, a PILEATED WOODPECKER was seen and photographed on the 27th. Two outstanding bird reports from Block Island, possibly due to the storm the region experienced on the 28th. On the 29th, a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER was seen for about 10 minutes at a feeder. Later that day, an INDIGO BUNTING was seen on the ground in the parking lot of the Block Island market. Neither bird was seen again. On the 26th, 1 ICELAND GULL just off parking lot number 4 at Beavertail Point in Jamestown. In the fields adjacent to Moonstone Beach, both the ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and the SHORT-EARED OWL were sighted again this week. A PIPING PLOVER was seen on the beach there on the 31st. Another PIPING PLOVER was reported at Narragansett Beach, near Narrow River on the 30th. Two FOX SPARROW were at the feeder at Trustom Pond NWR on the 25th. At White Brook in Richmond, the EURASIAN WIGEON continues along with 4 NORTHERN PINTAIL. Also reported in the area: 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, 1 BROWN CREEPER, 1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH and 2 TREE SWALLOW. On the 29th, at Camp Cronin in Narragansett, 40 BRANT and 1 BARN SWALLOW. Three RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen at Lincoln Woods on the 29th. On the 30th, 2 GLOSSY IBIS were observed flying northeast across the Newport Bridge toward Rose Island. Two AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER were reported just south of Rose Island in Newport. In Jerusalem, 1 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 1 GREAT EGRET, and 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS. At the East Providence Reservoir, 1 REDHEAD continues. On the 25th, a PEREGRINE FALCON was seen on the old Jamestown bridge. Two SNOW GEESE in the field north of Weeden Lane on the 31st.
