This report covers the period from October 29th to November 3rd, and will be updated again on November 10th. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was reported and accurately described in Jerusalem on the 3rd. The bird was resting on the exposed mud flats behind Capt'n Jack's Restaurant. It was seen flying off in the direction of Galillee. An adult CASPIAN TERN was found on the flats at the Third Beach restoration area in Middletown on the 1st. On the 29th, at Avondale Farm Preserve in Westerly, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER. At Trustom Pond NWR this week the following were recorded: 1 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 2 PALM WARBLER, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 4 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 HERMIT THRUSH, 3 REDHEAD, 625 RUDDY DUCK, 47 HOODED MERGANSER and 36 AMERICAN COOT. At Mud Pond in Matunuck, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL and 2 NORTHERN PINTAIL. In Card's Pond, seen from Moonstone Beach in Matunuck, 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 6 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 2 AMERICAN PIPIT and 1 OSPREY. On the 26th at Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown, 1 PURPLE FINCH and 1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER. At Sachuest Point, 2 FORSTER'S TERN, 2 RED-THROATED LOON, 1 NORTHERN GANNET, 8 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 31 SURF SCOTER, 2 LONG-TAILED DUCK, 4 HARLEQUIN DUCK, 1 COOPER'S HAWK, 1 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, 25 TREE SWALLOW, 1 FOX SPARROW and 1 ` WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. At St Mary's Pond in Middletown, 1 SNOW GOOSE in the pasture north of the pond on Union Street on the 2nd. On the 1st along Green End Ave in Middletown, 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD was found on a utility wire. On the 30th, 1 COMMON RAVEN was spotted over Nate Whipple Highway, about a half mile east of Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland. In Chepachet, 2 PINE SISKIN visited a feeder and 15 SNOW BUNTING were found in a gravel pit. A PILEATED WOODPECKER was seen on the 3rd near Chestnut Hill Road. Finally, at Napatree Point on the 1st, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, 5 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 2 DUNLIN, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 8 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 1 FORSTER'S TERN, 2 HORNED LARK, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, and 2 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW. This report covers the period from November 4th to November 11th, and will be updated again on November 17th. A MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was reported at Sachuest Point in Middletown on the 7th. Amazingly, there was a second report of a MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD seen 17 miles SSE of Block Island on the 5th. This bird landed on an outrigger for half an hour. A RED PHALAROPE was seen and photographed in the surf off Moonstone Beach on the 5th. Approximately 16 CAVE SWALLOWS were identified on the 11th during the course of the morning in the vicinity of Mud Pond and Moonstone beach. Two birds only identified as Petrochelidon swallows were reported from Napatree Point on the 11th and the 8th. At Trustom Pond NWR a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen on the 9th and 10th. Other birds reported from Trustom include: 16 REDHEAD, 500 RUDDY DUCK, 2 CANVASBACK, 13 SNOW GEESE, 4 HERMIT THRUSH, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 WINTER WREN, and 1 FOX SPARROW. A SHORT-EARED OWL was reported from the area on the 11th. On the 11th at Camp Cronin in Narragansett, 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. At Third Beach restoration area in Middletown on the 5th and 6th, 1 CASPIAN TERN. At Second Beach parking lot, 26 SNOW BUNTING. At Ninigret NWR, from the Grassy Point trail, 1 adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. On the 11th at Charlestown Beach, Charlestown, 2 FORSTER'S TERN. Off Bramen's Lane in Middletown, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 9 GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 11 SNOW GEESE. A BALTIMORE ORIOLE visited a yard in Smithfield on the 6th. On the 5th at Misquamicut State Beach parking lot, a LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was identified with several BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER. At the bridge near Shelter Cove Marina at the end of Charlestown Beach Road in Charlestown, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN on the 5th. Another AMERICAN BITTERN was seen off the Escape Road in Galilee. On the 8th a CATTLE EGRET was observed flying over Beavertail Point in Jamestown. Finally, at Napatree Point this week: 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR, 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, 1 AMERICAN PIPIT, 2 EASTERN PHOEBE, 1 OSPREY, 1 CHIPPING SPARROW, 1 "IPSWICH" SAVANNAH SPARROW, 17 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER, 1 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 2 RUDDY TURNSTONE and several PINE SISKIN. The species reported total for the year now stands at 311. The total for Octo ber was 222. (Thanks to Dave Gumbley for the statistics.) This report covers the period from November 12th to November 17th, and will be updated again on November 24th. Another MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was reported on the 14th. It was seen from Moonstone Beach flying east over the ocean. On the 15th, a WESTERN KINGBIRD was found at the entrance to Fort Getty in Jamestown. The bird has been seen every day since. It moves between the shrubs and bare trees to the north of the entrance road, and often flies to the farm field on the South side of the road, where it perches on the electric fence posts and wires and in trees. It's been seen flycatching and sitting on the ground. It occasionally disappears for several minutes, then reappears in one of the leafless trees on the corner of Beavertail Road and Fort Getty Road. Other sightings from this area include: 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, 1 PALM WARBLER, 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWK and 10 EASTERN MEADOWLARK. CAVE SWALLOWS were reported from several locations on the 12th. Fourteen were seen at Napatree Point in Westerly, 4 at Moonstone Beach, 1 along the Weekapaug side of Quonochontaug Breachway, 1 on Block Island, and 1 at Little Maschogue Pond in Westerly. Two adult male KING EIDER were seen with about 50 COMMON EIDER on the 13th, and one was spotted again on the 15th. The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was recorded at Trustom Pond NWR on the 12th through the 14th. Other highlights from the refuge this week included: 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 2 PIED-BILLED GREBE, 4 NORTHERN SHOVELER and a late COMMON NIGHTHAWK over the pond on the 12th. On the 15th at Scarborough Beach in Narragansett, 1 ICELAND GULL and 35 SNOW BUNTING. At Point Judith in Narragansett, 1800 NORTHERN GANNET, 1 PARASITIC JAEGER, 2 RAZORBILL, 3 LONG-TAILED DUCK, 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, 20 BLACK SCOTER, 2 RED-NECKED GREBE, 18 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 13 LAUGHING GULL. This report covers the period from November 18th to November 25th, and will be updated again on December 1st. The WESTERN KINGBIRD found in Jamestown last week was not seen after the 17th, however, another WESTERN KINGBIRD was reported from Atlantic Ave in the Misquamicut section of Westerly. It was found on the 24th, but was not relocated the next day. Two GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were located on the 25th at the Misquamicut Country Club. The birds were visible from the western end of Atlantic Avenue. In the vicinity of Winnapaug Pond, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 BALD EAGLE and 1 AMERICAN KESTREL In the parking lot at Misquamicut Beach on the 23rd, 25 HORNED LARK and 35 SNOW BUNTING. Another GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was found on the 25th in Hoffman Camp pond along Ministerial Road in South Kingstown. On the 19th at East Beach, in the Watch Hill section of Westerly, at the western end of Atlantic Avenue near Little Maschaug Pond, 2 CAVE SWALLOW. That same day a third CAVE SWALLOW was flying along Green Hill Beach in South Kingstown. At Green Hill Beach in South Kingstown, 1 KING EIDER continues to be seen there. It is with about 75 COMMON EIDER. At Trustom Pond NWR, the GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was reported again this week along with 3 SNOW GEESE and 3 REDHEAD. On Mud Pond in Matunuck, 6 NORTHERN SHOVELER and 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL. On the 20th, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK was identified in the area. Along Moonstone Beach a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen on the 19th. In the field to the north of the entry to Roy Carpenter's Beach in Matunuck, 20 EASTERN MEADOWLARK were discovered on the 20th, and 15 AMERICAN PIPIT were circling the fields at Roy Carpenter's that day. On the 22nd at Succotash Marsh in Jerusalem a LITTLE BLUE HERON was reported. At Sachuest Point in Middletown, an ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER was found on the 19th. On the 20th at Sachuest, 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 40 SNOW BUNTING and 1 BARN SWALLOW. On the 20th at St. Mary's Pond in Portsmouth, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. In Portsmouth on the 25th, 1 COMMON RAVEN was observed flying north over Union Street near Middle Road. Finally, in Burrillville, 5 PINE SISKINS visited a feeder.
