[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Long-tailed Duck at Barton Pond From: Bob Arthurs <bob.arthurs(AT)sbcglobal.net> Date: 13 Mar 2008 7:04am ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- I saw a Long-tailed Duck at the west most pulloff of Barton Pond this morning. I had heard a second-hand report of it last night but was not able to find it. This morning as I pulled in I saw what looked like a Long-tailed Duck from my car. I finished parking and got out the scope and did not see it. As I stood there another person drove up and said he had seen it earlier. The duck resurfaced and I was able to see it in the scope. There is also open water visible from the east most pulloff. Among the other ducks in that water was my first Green-winged Teal of the year. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Turkeys! From: Pat Burden <tallerpat(AT)aol.com> Date: 13 Mar 2008 12:32pm Below is a link to my Grovestreet album. This morning was a particularly active one for the turkeys (and other guests!). We finally got a good picture of the white turkey that has been visiting for about two years. I believe it is a leucistic Wild Turkey. She sure is beautiful - white with dark tips on her feathers. http://www.grovestreet.com/jsp/picview.jsp?album=88208 Pat Burden Yale, MI --- * birders FAQ - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/birders_FAQ.html * photo sharing site - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/se_mich/photos.html * To unsubscribe from birders(AT)umich.edu send a blank message to lyris(AT)listserver.itd.umich.edu with UNSUBSCRIBE BIRDERS as the Subject line. Numbers are increasing including at least 35 Gadwall today. There were no unexpected or unusual waterfowl species observed. The Northern Harrier was a nice fly over surprise. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Barton Pond , Thursday afternoon From: ddarm(AT)umich.edu Date: 13 Mar 2008 4:57pm I was able to find the female Long-tailed Duck this morning at 9 am on Barton Pond, near Foster Nature area. When I returned this afternoon, I did not see it, though I was treated to a single male RED_BREASTED MERGANSER and most of the other species that Will Webber reported from yesterday. There was also a pair of GADWALLs. I stopped at Foster Bridge and did not see the Greater White-fronted Goose. Dea **************************************************** Deaver D. Mouillee SGA - 13 Mar 2008 From: "Jerry Jourdan" <jourdaj(AT)gmail.com> Date: 13 Mar 2008 8:48pm ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Birders, I've just returned from a lovely evening down at Pt. Mouillee watching (5) SHORT-EARED OWLS working the Bloody Run Unit and the dikes along the Middle Causeway. From ~6:30pm to 7:30pm the owls were chasing each other and (5) NORTHERN HARRIERS that were also working the area. A great experience just to follow them through the scope and binocs (too far away for pics). Inland ponds are partially open and ducks have moved into them. Mostly Coots, Gadwall, Mallard, Redhead and Canvasbacks. Also seen were (2) American Wigeon and (2) Green-winged Teal and (1) Ruddy Duck and (1) immature Bald Eagle Redwings are setting up shop. A pair of Tree Swallows rounded out the evening!
