Subject: [birders] OT: RRBO web site down
From: jcraves(AT)umd.umich.edu
Date: 6 Jul 2009 7:56am
The RRBO web site has been down over the weekend. The ITS department
here migrated the campus to new servers, but has some problem that
they have yet to diagnose, although they tell me the site was not
actually "lost."
I also have no email at work, so hold your thoughts!

Birders,
Please join us for a Washtenaw Audubon Society sponsored field trip to
Matthei Botanical Gardens as we search for Butterflies. The walk will take
place this Sunday, July 12th, 2009. Leaders once again will be John Swales,
Roger Kuhlman and Roger Wykes, Washtenaw County's butterfly experts. We
will focus on butterfly identification and habitat.
Dress for the weather, bring plenty of bug spray and lots of water. In
years past this trip has produced outstanding results. This is a wonderful
walk for beginners to experts who enjoy butterflies and nature in general.
All are welcomed and no membership is required.
Meet in the parking lot of Matthei Botanical Gardens at 10:00 am. The walk
will go for approximately two hours.
Please contact me offline should you have any questions.
Thanks,
Ray

Hi all,
I haven't posted anything lately to my blog until this evening. I was up at
Mackinac Island this weekend and had the opportunity to photograph Common
Terns
in flight. I wanted to share this 'once in a lifetime' shot and remind
everyone that life is short, so make the most of it!

Subject: [birders] Sightings along Coe RR, Oakland County, desired...
From: Peter Collins <pcoll(AT)umich.edu>
Date: 6 Jul 2009 9:45pm
ASTI Environmental is conducting an inventory of natural features in
the Coe RR corridor. I'm the Project Manager with a budget that
allows for just one good pass at the corridor, and I want to get a
full inventory of birds using the RR corridor. This corridor starts
in Wixom at the RR's junction with the CSX and extends through Walled
Lake and Commerce to Haggerty Road. Have you birded that area? Got
sightings? All help appreciated!

Subject: [birders] OT: Densitometer, anyone?
From: Peter Collins <pcoll(AT)umich.edu>
Date: 6 Jul 2009 9:47pm
I need to evaluate some black and white negatives--4x5 film, and would
appreciate hearing from anyone who has access to a densitometer that I
might, in turn, access. If this is unclear, I can perhaps explain....

Subject: [birders] Short-eared owl fledglings - Berkley MI
From: "linda ar" <birdar101(AT)hotmail.com>
Date: 6 Jul 2009 11:05pm
Saw five maybe more short-eared owl fledglings on our walk this evening.
We were actually only two houses away when I started hearing the begging
calls. I ran home and grabbed my flashlight to get a better look and sure
enough there were at least five young Short-eared owls calling and chasing
one another in the trees. Too dark for pictures unfortunately and they
were gone within 10 minutes when I went for another look.
