[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] different birds From: Su Clift <s.clift(AT)comcast.net> Date: 10 Jul 2009 8:50am Just when I was starting to think cowbirds had taken over my backyard.... ... this morning I saw a pair of titmice (haven't seen any for over a year), a hairy woodpecker, and the chickadees are making themselves known. All at my feeders. Of course, I have to go out of town today.... can't stick around to feed and watch them.... [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Re: brown thrasher From: "Russell Emmons" <birdeland(AT)pasty.net> Date: 10 Jul 2009 11:19pm This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Last Week checking a thicket along a creek that cuts through Fishermans = Island State Park up in Charlevoix county I happened along a pair of = Brown Thrashers in there. Quite agitated, they were within inches of me = in the brush scolding all the time. In that period they aligned = themselves whereas I only saw them in view for fleeting seconds. Never = could get a photo. Likely they had a nest very nearby. Also in there = were agitated Baltimore Orioles, Song Sparrows and by all accounts a = single Northern Waterthrush! Did get one not great photo of it anyhow. = Not wanting to disrupt these birds further I backed away. Russ Emmons, back in St. Clair county. ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Robert Collins=20 To: birders(AT)umich.edu=20 Sent: Thursday, July 09, 2009 11:29 AM Subject: [birders] brown thrasher For a normally elusive bird, I have had good opportunities to have = long looks at Brown Thrashers. Twice I enjoyed the bird water bathing = in a small, intermittent stream that runs off of the back of our house = along a Bur Oak woodland. Then yesterday I watched a thrasher dust = bathe in the sand from a ground mole "push up" that brought the sand up = to the surface. In all observations there was extensive preening before = the subjects returned to their quiet habitats.
