[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Refuge Gateway Habitat Project Event From: "Greg Norwood" <Greg_Norwood(AT)fws.gov> Date: 1 Dec 2009 9:39am Congressman John D. Dingell and Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano invite you to a media event to celebrate the completion of the Monguagon Creek Daylighting and Wetland Restoration Project at Wayne County’s Refuge Gateway.   Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at 10am Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Gateway 5437 West Jefferson Avenue Trenton, Michigan 48183   For more information contact John Hartig (John_Hartig(AT)fws.gov) or Becca Robinson (Rebecca_Robinson(AT)fws.gov or 734.692.7672).   Directions: Please enter the Refuge Gateway on the east side of West Jefferson Avenue, between the intersections of Van Horn and Vreeland in Trenton, Michigan.  The entrance gate is directly south of a Solutia plant and will be marked with a sign.  Parking is available inside the gates.  Please dress appropriately for this outdoor event.   Project Description:  The Monguagon Creek Daylighting and Wetland Restoration Project has recreated six acres of wetlands in an area that has lost 97% of its coastal wetlands to development and has improved the quality of urban stormwater as it enters the Detroit River through the creation of a stormwater basin and lake plain prairie wetland.  These site features help to naturally filter stormwater flowing from Monguagon Creek and help restore the natural hydrology of the Refuge Gateway and adjacent Monguagon Delta.  Additional benefits include wildlife habitat creation and opportunities for hands-on environmental education and natural resource interpretation. --- * birders FAQ - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/birders_FAQ.html * photo sharing site - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/se_mich/photos.html * To unsubscribe from birders(AT)umich.edu send a blank message to lyris(AT)listserver.itd.umich.edu with UNSUBSCRIBE BIRDERS as the Subject line. I love your writing and photos. I hope everyone takes a peek. I'm shocked you were able to see a Phainopepla in Ontario. If you hadn't seen a single other bird, that would have made the entire trip worthwhile. -- Bob Tarte Author of Fowl Weather and Enslaved by Ducks Info and animal photos at www.BobTarte.com --- * birders FAQ - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/birders_FAQ.html * photo sharing site - http://www.umich.edu/~bbowman/birds/se_mich/photos.html * To unsubscribe from birders(AT)umich.edu send a blank message to lyris(AT)listserver.itd.umich.edu with UNSUBSCRIBE BIRDERS as the Subject line. [ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Snowy Owl in St. Clair County From: Pat Burden <tallerpat(AT)aol.com> Date: 1 Dec 2009 5:41pm ----INCLUDING text/plain MIME SECTION---- Sorry for the late post, but a friend of mine reported seeing a Snowy Owl= this past weekend in our area (northern St. Clair County). He took a pho= to of it with his cell phone and there is no doubt it is a Snowy Owl. Fro= m his description and the photo (which was from a distance and not a wonde= rful photo), I believe it was an adult owl as it had very few black markin= gs. I was not told about the Owl until today, however he now has my cell= number programmed into his phone and has been given instructions to call= me immediately if he sees one again. This owl was seen sitting on a fenc= epost behind a cow barn on the north side of M-19 on the section that is= also known as Wilkes Rd. (just west of Emmett Rd.) It will be interestin= g to see whether this turns out to be an "owly" winter.
