[ << | >> | ^^ ] Subject: [birders] Woodpecker vs Snake Video From: Diane Pruden <dianepruden(AT)gmail.com> Date: 18 Dec 2009 3:57pm --001636c5c22c93408e047b06fcad Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable http://www.dula.tv/watch.php?file=3Dwoodpecker-vs-snake.flv This is an exciting video sent to me by a friend. When you open it, there is a button between on the bottom right, just before the volume button that will give a full screen view. That way you can ignore the garbage to the right of the video screen. My friend sent the following additional information: I just got this ID from a German ornithological friend: "I can help you with the woodpecker, but not with with the snake. I=B4ve distributed the video to a couple of reptile people, but I=B4ve got no response so far. The heroic bird is a male Crimson-crested woodpecker (Campephilus melanoleucos) possibly defending its nest hole. The species is congeneric with the Ivory-billed and the Imperial woodpecker, but much smaller (length is 34 -38 cm, weight up to 280 g). Its range of distribution is wide and extends from Panama down to N-Paraguay and even NE- Argentina. A picture is attached. Best wishes, G=FCnther" Another friend sent this response: "It is a crimson-crested woodpecker vs. an olive whipsnake on Peru's Yarapa River.
