Subject: Re(2): Breeding plumage goldfinch

This is interesting. I have a flock of about a dozen goldfinches who
regularly visit the feeder and the males are starting to look a little
more colorful, though nowhere near as colorful as Mike's. When my mother
was visiting over Christmas, she commented on this as well.
In the last week, I've had two large mourning dove visits at the feeder --
14 both times which is a record for us. Also had four redpolls on
Christmas Day -- a real treat as I haven't seen them at our house in
Charlotte before. The rest of the feeder activity (which is wonderfully
busy) consists of tree sparrows with a few house sparrows hanging around
with them, two white-breasted nuthatches, house finches, blue jays,
chickadees and the occassional downy and hairy woodpeckers.
Happy birding in the new year, all!
