Visitors:
Janney Flores, Rob Erickson, Dan Williams, Gary Gulezian, Maggie, Kinzie,
and Jim Solum.
Weather:
Light to moderate winds from the WNW to SW in the 5 to 12 mph range. Skies
were sunny early in the day but eventually turning mostly cloudy.
Temperature reached a high of 72F.
Raptor Observations:
Osprey continued from yesterday with a group of 5 migrating together (all
adults). A symmetrically partial albinistic Turkey Vulture was present
with most of its outer primaries and upper primary coverts pure white along
with several tips on the central secondaries.
Non-raptor Observations:
85 Cedar Waxwings, 23 Common Nighthawks, 29 Purple Martins, 2 Red-headed
Woodpeckers. Our first big dragonfly flight of the fall with thousands of
Common Green Darners moving. Hundreds of Monarch butterflies were also
passing through.
A Good Balloon Day! Party Time?
7 Red/pink balloons, 1 silver, 7 green, and 3 white balloons.
Predictions:
Sunday will continue to have a westerly flow in the 10 mph range and should
produce some raptors. However, cloud cover and precipitation may pose a
problem and may shut down any raptor movement that may develop. On Monday,
a cold front approaches and looks to pass through late in the day.
Temperature drop will be significant but winds behind the front look to be
northerly.
Another front that looks to pass through on Thursday may bring in nice
flight of raptors late in the week. This one bears watching!!

No true visitors beyond the customary "what are you looking for?"
questioners from a seat in their passing cars.
Weather:
Tropical Storm Hannah orchestrated the sky starting with near totally
cloudy and 35 mph northnorthwest winds with gusts to near 50 and high
humidity. The sky later partially cleared, humidity dropped but wind did
not subside much by end of day as a cold front came through midafternoon.
Raptor Observations:
First falcons today - a kestrel and a merlin. The merlin put on a high
speed show as it attempted to scare up some food before migrating onover
the ridge.
Non-raptor Observations:
One Monarch migrating inspite (maybe because) of the strong winds. Lots of
chimney swifts still playing the winds.
Predictions:
Gentiler northwest winds and a good thermal day expected.

Visitors:
Many! Chris Bennett arrived around 7:30am, but had to leave just after I
arrived. Frank Rohrbacher, Derek Stoner, Judy Montgomery, Bill Stewart,
Dave Martin, and a few others came up to the watch to brave the storm.
Weather:
Winds in the early morning out of the SE, becoming more easterly as the
morning progressed, and intensifying. By the time we called the hawkwatch
officially over for the day, winds were around 20-25mph sustained out of
the East. Temp never got over 25C. The main force of Hanna seemed to hit in
the mid afternoon with heavy rains and winds reaching 45mph gusts.
Raptor Observations:
As expected given the weather..
Non-raptor Observations:
Chris Bennett spotted a Parasitic Jaeger early in the morning. I had a
distant jaeger (presumably same sp.) at around 9am. The swallow show was in
full effect this morning with hundreds if not thousands of Tree Swallows
buzzing right around our heads, managing to maneuver in the high winds!
Predictions:
much better...strong WNW winds could bring some birds our way.
